I'm always pondering ways to defend my home, as I feel that will be my biggest weakness should the SHTF.

At a flea market last week, I came across a beautiful display of "collectors swords."

I thought to myself, what a great idea. A bit of an eclectic Asian theme in the home decor with these stunning swords. Then, if I did manage to get myself in some trouble for defending myself, I might be able to play the "I grabbed the closest thing at hand" card.

What do you all think of this? I'm leaning away from guns because I dislike the fact that the government is so involved in that. I like the fact that there will really be no record of us owning these.

Nice Idea, but Generally Collectors Swords are not sharpenable.

Check into it first. If it can be sharpened, then go for it.

Lately I've been looking at a link someone here posted you might find usual if you want to take the knife/sword approach to home defense:

Well Daisy
If, or when, SHTF and you need to defend yourself with a sword, you won't likly get into trouble, The police will be far to busy protecting commercial intrests. But may I suggest something a little less unweilding as an Asian sword, a brand new Fiskers splitting hatchet. They are very very sharp, and none of your friends will think anything of it, unless of course, they find it lying under your bed ...
A sword has one use, a decent hatchet has many ... Keep up with the prepping
