This was posted to James Wesley, Rawles' blog site: http://www.survivalblog.com/2011/06/letter_re_the_vancouver_hockey.html

Mr Rawles,
I first posted this in a Survival forum I frequent often in response to the widespread, violent riots that broke out in Vancouver after the local hockey team lost in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

I just was reading up on it this morning and you got to ask yourself: If your "countrymen" would essentially devolve into barbarian hordes over a stupid game - what do you think they'll do when they have no food, water, heat, electricity and no government to bail them out or keep them in their place?

While I don't want to start a debate with this pserson I do want to share my thoughts about the letter here.

First there were NO widespread, violent riots but rather isolated and small pockets of crime, the biggest one in a few blocks of downtown.

Second, no one devolved into barbarian hordes over a stupid game. These folk were primed to cause crime and they came prepared. They had criminal intent, not barbaric mindlessness and were hardly a horde. I can't even justify the term "riot" to describe this self indulgent crime spree using a crowd to hide. A true riot would have seen the whole crowd on the rampage rather than 1%.

If we must decend into this level of incredibility to urge others to prep, we do them no good and look foolish ourselves. A true anti-gov't riot over food and taxes and wages is met with violence, not phone cameras.

Equating these two scenarios does no justice to either.

lol.
love the photo attachment.

I am still stunned about what happened -- wtf?!
I have no understanding of why. Sure they were fueled by testosterone and alcohol, but -- really?!

I was heartened by today's news about the clean-up, the outpouring of appreciation for the police's position (damned if they do, damned if they don't), the stories of people trying to stand up the vandals, human chains protecting some store fronts, pancake breakfast tomorrow for clean-up volunteers, etc.

But, I have to agree that even in idyllic West Coast of BC we are only inches from anarchy. There seems to be an element out there that is eager to create chaos, and a thick layer of boobs willing to go along with it, once started.

Maybe this is our wake-up call. When that mega-thrust earthquake hits I must remember about the nature of man.

And keep my crow bar handy.
