Awesome ... I'm working on some Scott Joplin ... "Maple Leaf Rag" - - lots of fun to play
was out in B.C. about 10 year ago skiing Whistler/Blackcomb, Grouse and Lake Louise. While I was out there I had bought Enyas "Watermark" and "Shepards Moon" and now whenever I hear anything by Enya I dream of the Rockie Mountains. You live in the most beautiful part of Ontario. 😀

The Muskoka's are extraordinary in the fall, the colors!! I lived in North Bay for 4 years ( 25 years ago) and was lucky enough to spend some time at a friend's cabin (about 45 minutes out of Huntsville? I can't remember the name of the lake though) I always remember how soft the water was, amazing, better then any hair conditioner out there!
Maple Leaf Rag!! Wow!... wonder if my fingers could keep up?? I would definitely have to practice to get more limber! ( I have gotten lazy ... never play scales ...lol )

A couple of my Enya favorites are Wild Child and Only Time...

On hobbies... I have been considering a new one as I appear to have the materials available. During my recent unpacking, I came across a large bag of fabric scraps, some from my days of fabric collaging (with glue) and I am considering (attempting) to make a patchwork quilt. Sewing talents seem to have by-passed me though beyond basic mending, I suspect I will be leaning heavily on vanislemom's knowledge of sewing and youtube for guidance!

I've been meaning to add my two cents...

As paintergirl mentioned, I can sew. Over the years I've tried many types of projects, clothes, drapes, cushion covers (just about killed the machine on that one, upholstery fabric is heavy). But as I've gotten older, and constricted by lack of space in my condo, I haven't been very creative. Lately I've been doing some sewing and repairs for work, I take 'payment' in paid time off. One project was three billiard table (6' x 12') covers out of flag nylon. Just big flat sheets, but, oh, the amount of fabric! I've also sewn several sets of sheer panels for french doors AND installed the rods. Another project was to make lengths of skirting for between the large, ornate legs of the billiard tables to hide folding tables in storage underneath.

I have crocheted afghans (I like the ripple stitch best), but my wrist can't take working all day and crocheting all evening, so don't do that any more. But in a shtf situation I would do it if I needed more blankets.

I like to do crossword puzzles, not real hard ones like the New York Sunday Times one, just ones I have a chance of actually finishing. 😆 I like to read, mostly news and current events, how-to, vitamin and nutrition, a few biographies, non-fiction. But I do have a few favourite novels, Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, and as I've mentioned on other thread the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. My memory is now bad enough that I could keep re-reading the books I have and not get bored. 😆

If I had lots of money and time I'd like to do some other things. Since meeting paintergirl all those years ago I've been interested in painting. (I used to have quite a bit of artistic talent when I was a kid, but for a variety of reasons didn't pursue it.) I have tried painting, but for lack of space it's all packed up in the closet. 🙁

It probably looks like I am very sedentary, but actually I have a very physical job, and with no vehicle I walk alot. I should probably push back from this computer and move around now too! 🙂

I have a ton of "enforced" hobbies.
Today I made new improved bindings for my showshoes, I'm working on bedding one of my rifles, making a scope mount for a crossbow, improving my trailer for next year, making bicycle power for my grain mill. That's just the stuff at the top of the list......

My husband and I moved out to the bush. We have 32 acres north of Belleville.

His hobby is photography. We have some stunning views, deer in backyard, birds and critters all over the place. His other hobby (besides fixing our house up) is furniture making. He's done a wood lamp and he's setting up to do some lawn furniture, tables, chairs, lamps, etc. Lots of wood on our land, and he enjoys puttering with it.

My hobby is food - baking, in particular.

When we moved from the city to up here, Pizza Pizza doesn't deliver - so I had to learn very quickly how to cook - and not just pop a frozen McCain pizza in the oven cook. My husband is a picky eater, so frozen foods, canned veggies, etc. not happening. Which, I am very thankful for. Because of that, we eat better. I still have a deep fryer and we have fries - but fries from potatoes (hopefully all grown in our yard) not a bag from the freezer.

We both have a sweet tooth - and I discovered how cheap and easy it is to bake cookies rather than buy a bag of oreos. And, now, guaranteed about two times a week you will see me stirring up butter and brown sugar for cookies, banana bread, or something equally yummy. Next venture - cheese cake 🙂

pizza dough, 2 cups hot water, two table spoon sugar, or maple syrup. two table spoons quick yest, two tales spoons vegetable oil. Stir it up, mix in flour and kneed, let rise for one hour, roll out , add toppings. This makes
a big pizza and full oven side pan.

My sig. other has turned into quite the pizza maker... it tastes better then the restaurants! Our favorite toppings include spinach, peppers and mushrooms and heaps of chili peppers plus whatever meat, we decide to include. We had bought a pizza stone some time back and you can't beat it for a fantastic crust! I am going to make some ricotta and we want to try that out on it.

Not long ago I got my hands on a loom knitter and it has become addictive!

Mmmmm PIZZZA!!!!
We eat a lot of pizza. My kid's favorite! I cook 'em on the BBQ in the summer time and the kids get all excited 🙂

Hobbies for me turn into $$.
I learned to sew, knit and embroider at a very young age. I make purses, quilts, capes, pillows, artwork, anything you can think of with various fibers. I dabble in leather work... it is a slow process for me as I am doing it by trial and error.
I paint, do beadwork, cook and bake, woodwork... and because I am a DIY'er and a single parent I sell pretty much anything I make and lucky enough to make an ok living at it. ok not fabulous. Summer is the best for me as the tourists hit the area and spend $. This is my time of year to stock not only my cupboards but inventory as well.

I guess my hobby has become prepping... gardening, canning, organizing, hunting, fishing, couponing, bargain hunting lol. I used to be into photography but had to sell my camera to make ends meet. Now I have a camera on my phone and that's it. It does ok though.
I love to cook eccentric meals for dirt cheap and I love to experiment in the kitchen with foods from our pavement garden and local ingredients. That is the way I challenge myself. I rarely use a cookbook, I google for ideas and when the dinner is done it is never like the recipe was supposed to be (I add stuff to everything!) I also cook as salt free as possible and freeze/preserve whatever I can.

My hobby was woodworking, then the army found out and decided to give me my own shop on the base. Four and a half years I spent cabinetmaking for the army when I wasn't out doing infantry stuff. Since my hobby became my job, I decided to get back into pistol shooting as a hobby. Now I'm retired from the army and what am I doing, that's right, Showing people how to shoot. Now, during the summer months, I help my neighbour with his trail riding and cattle drive business. So far I've refused to let him pay me, so I guess that's my hobby now.

The pizza sounds great, and we've done a few of our own, but it's the sauce that is the difficult part. Any tips for the sauce?

Don't know if you like chunky sauce or smooth but....there is a recipe in one of the Tightwad Gazette books for spaghetti sauce that is fabulous. One year I made 36 quarts of it for the freezer. Froze it in plastic bag lined yogurt tubs and stacked it like cord wood on one short wall of the freezer 😉 We ate it at least once a week and it made the most awesome pizza sauce. We liked it a lot. This year I plan on getting a bushel of tomatoes and making it again. It's a fairly chunky sauce but a hand blender would take care of that 😉

Wow that was easy. I just searched for it.

Only change I would make is replace the sugar with a bunch of carrots.

I leave the sugar out unless my tomatoes are really acidy.
This year I plan to can it rather than freeze it....but my shelf space is kind of limited so some may go in the freezer. I just use regular garden tomatoes some years...other years I get a bushel of sauce/ paste tomatoes.
