Does anybody know if the Home Depot buckets are good for storing food? Are they food grade?

Does anybody use these? They're so inexpensive!

that link is RIGHT AND WRONG.
there are two symbols you need to look for when deciding if it's food grade or not.
HOME DEPOT BUCKETS ARE NOT FOOD GRADE.

yes they are made from food grade plastic, but they can be removed from their molds using chemicals that are not food grade.

but if they ARE food grade they will also have an FDA stamp on them as well, it reads "meets FDA food grade requirements" or something very close to that (just read it but have a short memory today :S.
"HOME HARDWARE" buckets have both the plastic content recycling symbol with the 5 in it, plus the FDA stamp. home depot does not.

saying that, if you use a Mylar bag inside, you should be more then fine. but home hardware buckets go on sale twice a year for $3. cheaper then the home depot buckets.

the only exception to the two stamp rule is when the buckets actually contained food before you got them. eg. Muffin buckets from food land.
