I also do not need to google them due to the fact that I have two charts on my wall;
one is Winchester ammo, types, velocities, drop rates, trajectories etc
the second is the Federal Arms company, similar to the Winchester though the Winchester is a tin type raised and imprinted. It is quite nice actually and even some peace nics I know, think it looks rather neat for a bullet thing, as they say.
cheers
A warning all!!!!!
I've just learned of a new breed of prepper (survivalist). I was surfing yesterday and I came across an ad from an Alberta based group. The ad reinforced to me the need for OPSEC. This group (and I've learned that they're not the only one) wants a retreat. If you have a retreat in west central Alberta you can contract with them to come in and provide your security needs if TSHTF. They will come in and set up a community around you and your family. Of course you must include them in your will so that they can continue to occupy the retreat in the event of your death. In the ad they state that they have the manpower and weaponry to outmatch an infantry platoon.
Anyone gullible enough to accept their offer might even live to regret it if TSHTF. If there are more groups like this out there, then you can be sure that they pay attention to forums like this. Even mentioning in an open forum what town or neighbourhood you are near can suggest new hunting grounds. If you want to let anyone know your location, pm them, don't give away your locale in the forum. If you want to set up a meet with someone new, do it at a good distance from your retreat.
I mentioned in one of my posts about a U.S. based group that said they have the names and addresses of every Mormon household within 500 miles for their food supplies. Don't believe for a second that groups like that wouldn't use these forums to develop intelligence for future use. In fact, if anyone should hear of a group like that and even the general area they're in, maybe post it in this forum to warn others.

Daisy : First thing is to take your hunting lic ,you can do the FAC course at the same time around $150-$200..then you can buy a gun and go hunting so you can supply drug free protien for your family...Different species we hunt take different types of guns ..so a 12 gauge shot gun pump action is good for waterfowl,or small game birds as well as deer ..now deer sometimes is hunted with at least a 30 caliber rifle or a rifle depends were you hunt bigger 30 cal rifles are for moose hunting . Now all these guns that you use for hunting to help feed the family .Will also protect your home from bandits./.We dont hunt with handguns in Canada,,But if you are interisted in joining a gun club a hand gun would be alright as they have competions for shooting hand guns ,rifles ,and skeet shooting ..and competive shooting sports are great fun i do this and have alot of fun alot of both men and womean do this sport ,,hope this helps... after comes fishing . now course needed ,but alot of family fun and put alot of food away many ways to store wild game and fish .. pm me if you need any help finding a spot to go for courses .....I also bow hunt for all species talked about and have been successful deer, moose , bear, and wild turkey....ohhh one more course for turkey hunting .....logger1
My mother has hunted big game with my father for many years. She has never shot a deer but only because my parents don't like venison. My mothers rifle of choice is a Remington chambered for .243. It's legal for big game and doesn't have a heavy recoil. She's tried .30 caliber rifles before but wasn't comfortable with the recoil. She's taken a lot of moose and elk with her rifle and plans to stick with it.
PS: Last year my father used my mothers .243 to bag a grizzly at 320 yards.

OUR RETREAT:
I'd like to share with everyone what I have planned for our retreat. I might have some feasible options others may have not thought about ...... I'm a teacher, lololol so please bear with me........
Our retreat will be one that hopefully no-one wants to enter in the first place. Like life, make it an illusion. All these are for when TWAWKICTAE severe. (the world as we know it comes to an end - for those new people)
We have an old tractor, so building up dirt berms, felling trees, moving rock will hopefully stop vehicle traffic (military/tanks etc not included). If you are expecting military equipment to come thru, deep holes dug in their path covered with vegetation. More later.
Then foot traffic will hopefully be scared off by what we will have set up in the building. I plan to put the kids doll "Chucky" yes chucky lolol placing him face down in one of our old strollers just inside the door. He will wear a little hat and have a blanket and stuffies strewn around the floor. I figure some sort of red fluid as blood around also. Mentally, anything dead, especially a child will hopefully trigger subconsciously, a flee response. The idea is to keep people from coming into your retreat. Your family, your food and weapons all count on keeping people OUT. Some will be spreading virus and other nasties. Also online you can find quarantine signs that you can print. Have laminated at Office Depot or other similar business so it looks genuine and will withstand the weather for awhile longer then just hanging paper. Make more than one. Crime tape is useful if you can get your hands on some. Tape across doors. FEMA marked houses after Katrina, learn codes and follow that example.
For "zombies" - drug addicts/severely mentally gone individuals; old propane tanks (the small green ones) tyewrapped around the property to trees or fence posts within range of our .22 with laser will make a nice cheap distraction with an added feature of flying debris. With black or dark green electrical tape, tape old forks, knives, metal pieces to the canister, then a layer of twigs and grasses taped over that to hide projectiles and tank. If placed at ground level, you can disable your target very well in the lower limb area so you can bring in for interrogation - don't forget to keep tye wraps for prisoners. Also popbottles with styrofoam soaked in gas for a really sticky burning mess (for really difficult beings). Bury after they stop burning - yes the people. You can bury the canisters also if you want.
I'm going with a more stealth approach as far as weapons are concerned for single person issues for SHTF. Silence is golden! The last thing you want to do is give away your location. High end slingshots that are adjusted to shoot arrows. The grandsons love these. Bow are arrow sets. We have two way radios and night vision. Upper body tension exercises are important to keep accuracy at it's prime.
My mother and father went thru WW2. Food storage and weaponry have always been in my life. My grandmother went thru both WW1 and WW2, she taught me the handcrafted skills and making date squares. My motherinlaw taught me canning and processing. My fatherinlaw taught me vegetable gardening. They've all passed on now, so I truely feel the pressures of educating my family and friends. Especially now. I believe it is my calling to educate - Knowledge is power, when you put your power to good use, and have the knowledge to know when to use it!!

.22lr are great as a secondary choice for hunting and improvised self defense, but you should have something more substantial. You can disagree with me, but I don't see cops or military with them.
This is very true. So........ how do you get a 9mm? ( cop gun ) With a .22!!

Knowledge is power. Practised knowledge is strength. Tested knowledge is confidence.
except that when the shtf i will guarantee that these same RCMP officers will be worrying about their own homes and families and not yours!!
You got that right, any shift, what ever that means, I guess totally society brake down. I see all police, fire, hospital staff running for home. I would.
My turn, i'm 30 years old and have lived in the bush since birth. i have shot most guns available and trust me the 22lr is the most under rated load, it is deadly. look it up and you will see every hunter has one and it is cheap to shoot, 500 shells for 25 bucks. if you are looking for a good home defence weapon the shot gun is the best, you can take down a looter small game and even a moose. the great thing about it is there are so many loads available for it from bird shot to duck loads and slugs. you can get a remmington 870 12 gauge for less then $375 it holds 7 shels and gan be used for deffence and hunting. But just buying a gun and ammo will be useless. A weapon is only as good as the preson using it. learning to use it properly and SAFELY. i hunt with guys that have $5000 guns and they miss all the time. my moose gun cost me $175 bucks and i can hold a 2 inch group with it at 400 yards.you have to practice all the time. And at the end of the day is there anything more intimidatingthen the sound of someone chambering a round in a nice pump shot gun! 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 😈 😈 😈 😈 😈

😀 100% on the money post, congrats
The 22lr is a great round, it has the power to go in but some times it dose not come out it just ricochets aroud like its in a pin ball game. If nato had there way the 22lr round would be outlawed. There is not a single game animal in Canada that has not been taken with a 22lr at one time or another and the shear ammount of ammo one person can carry is un matched by any other rifle. You cant beat a good semi auto 22lr rifle, and is a must for any preeper. sorry for the rant, it bothers me when people slice the 22lr round just because its small. The 17 hmr is smaller and you can use it to hunt 250 pound hogs in the us.

I took my first elk with a .22 long rifle. My father said he and my uncles regularly hunted antelope with .22 cooeys when they were kids in southern Alberta.

A silly story. I have a .22 Cooey. One day I went home from work and my EX-boyfriend was using my rifle to jack up his car as he had broken the ... lever-rod thing. I've never used the rifle since.
