This subject had been brought up in another thread, but I thought it needed it's own home.
We are looking to create a network of Ham radio operators, that could relay information during a crisis.
We need operators from coast to coast.
The network would also operate on a regular basis to make sure everything is running smoothly.
The idea is to have information available to preppers in the event of well, anything that could happen.
The network could provide valuable information into the crisis zone, where regular communication systems are overloaded or non-existant.
Anyone who is a ham operator and is interested in getting such a network up and running, please chime in.
I have always believed in Ham radio operators, when all other communications fail, Ham operators were able to pass vital information to families abroad, and still do today with troops in the middle east. For those who have taken the time to take accomplish the variety of courses required, Well, my hat is off to you. Over and Out.
Great idea. Communications are of paramount importance during any crisis. Would this network tie into ARES (ARRL in the US) or would it be a separate entity? Either way it is a very positive step.
In the other thread I suggested some people with HAM setups to try to pick a good, not so often used Channel for either all across Canada or just by Province.
Then after a SHFT event, we could tune our radios in to this channel every night or Even nights, Mon, Wed etc.. or Every Sat / Sun after 8pm..
I did see that there were about 3 people who said they had HAM or knew about HAM setups in the Ontario forum. Maybe just PM them directly to say, HEY, come check this out and give us your feedback.
Today at the Flea Market, I spotted one of them OLD Radio Shack Radios with the UHF/VHF/AM/FM / air wave radios, listening only $3 ... I said, I have $3 he said give me the coins and it is yours.
Runs on Batteries or AC

Nice find on the radio!
I have one person willing to help out in Ontario, but I'm hoping to get more people on board. I may drop a topic into each of the Provincial forums, as there may be people who don't frequent the national one. I like the idea of regular transmitting on a set frequency & schedule. Perhaps a rotating schedule for opsec though.

I was thinking more of a network independant of any others. The idea is to get the network up and running now, so that we can communicate easily when SHTF.

Agreed...ham is hard to kill, unlike land lines, cellular, and internet. I am studying now to be able to challenge the exam in the near future, and yes, my hats off to those who have done it as well.
I just posted in another thread about this topic to say that I'm in the process of studying for and taking the test for the HAM license. I'm not sure when I'll be all set up, but I will definitely be in on this when I am.
That would be great..this has been a slow process and we could really use the help!
i don't like being the one that always seems to put a negative light on things. . .
but when this starts getting serious, all communications on it should be done thru email. and before ya'll sign up together, get to know the people you are working with on this.
my call sign is linked to my home address, and it's published online. while i'm on the air, i don't talk preps, when i'm talking preps i don't give out my call sign.
i believe strongly in created communities and Communications networks, but it has to be done with people you KNOW and trust. i won't be sharing my call sign info on a open/public forum, and if i was an admin here, i'd be screening people who are interested. yes this is a lot of extra work, but you talk about what preps you have here, then you share info that gives out your home address. . . it's worth the work.
while i trust most preppers, and if you're taking the time to get your HAM tickets, you are committed in that aspect too, but there are posers out there and there are MZB that just troll for info.
you and your family (and preps) are worth too much to give all that info away.
some ways around this, have a post office box for your Ham licence info. . .or which is illegal, have your address changed to one that is not your own. . . i personally don't advocate illegal activity, so you need to decide how safe you feel sharing this kind of info.
adsum. . . aut viam inveniam aut faciam
