I was wondering if people are doing multi tool collecting or non food item collecting and if you are what are you collecting & at what number do you stop.
For example: garden tools, non electric wood working tools, kitchen items.
Going through a few of my things I realized that I have 4 sausage/meat grinders. 3 of them are the same with the 4th one a little smaller.
How many can you reasonably expect to use? One with another for spare parts? If you simply acquired them one way or another no problem but if you paid for them all you're probably better being careful where you spend your resources.
I myself have no idea how I managed to have 7 or 8 wood planes but I may have bought one. The rest just showed up somehow. They don't take up space so I'll keep em all.
My grinders "showed" up about the same way as your wood planes. Fathers's mom, mother's mom, ex's grandmother and my mother 🙂
If I remember correctly someone said they were collecting garden tools and frying pans but I can't remember who it was or why they were collecting them.
That would be me, at farm sales for pennies on the dollar, the why was tools for extra hands and help/plus wear out, and the cast iron pans for extra cooking but also small ones for trade value

Space is at a premium at our place, so we don't have anything in our life that isn't useful on pretty much a daily basis. We do have seasonal tools for the yard and kitchen that need to be stored when not in use, but we don't keep extras. Things like meat grinders are built to last forever, ours is ancient and keeps on trucking--no need for more than one for us personally.
That said, we are collecting things for our teens for when they leave home--good cast iron etc. But that will leave when they do, and only amounts to a crate of gear per kid that they each keep in their bedroom closets.
thanks all
I think I will start to get rid of more stuff
There are some things that I do have multiples of.
For example, I have 6 shovels, 3 styles 2 each.
Hammers is another item that I can't seem to get enough of.
However, many of my manual tools are bought at flea markets, garage sales, or on sale at Canadian Tire.
Spare handles and wedges for your striking tools. Hammers, axes, mauls, splitters. The head will never break but the wood.... or fiberglass... will one day need to be replaced. more efficient and lighter than the whole tool.
I have 3 or 4 hand held can openers, same with veggie peelers and paring knives.
I have numerous multi tools and screwdriver sets. I tend to buy them on sale... I am a sucker for a sale tag lol
7 stock pots. 3 are the same size lol I bought 2 the rest were given to me.
Pots for plants.. my son brings me a few dozen a month. I had to tell him to stop (for growing veggies! and whatever else he can bring home)
Old tools I find at yard or junk sales.
Old jugs (prefer glass)
I have a hard time saying no to old clothes too. I can use them 100 different ways 😉
Sounds to me like you guys have trade goods for your next local meet
Or put out feelers for your local preppers the may have twoo of what you need
Hobo
.
Needs must when the devil drives.
My wife tells me that I have the largest collection of screwdrivers on the planet. She has the largest collection of shoes. What's up with that? OK my fault, I should not have married a centipede.

😆
I have a large shop on an acreage with lots of tools and probably don't require anymore than whats already here. A big thing in my mind are items such as cleaning supplies, soaps, detergents, medical needs, light bulbs, TP, and personal hygiene supplies. Who cares how much gas and spare car parts you have when you're dying of infections due to unsanitary conditions?
