Evenin',

Just got home after viewing the latest remake movie from Hollywood, RED DAWN (2012).

We had to go up to the city to see this one, not sure it will make it to our little town theatre. We were in the smaller theatre at the multi-plex and we had about 30% of the seats filled. Demographics, 40% under 20, 60% old enough to remember seeing the original movie at the theatre for less than $5. Man am I getting old, lol.

Like the original, the purpose of this action packed movie is to prepare a new generation to the possibility of ground combat on home soil. The 1984 version the threat was Cold War adversary USSR, this time around it is North Korea, because when it was originally to be released for November 2011, the Chinese protested being painted as the bad guys of the world. Hollywood caved in, and held back the release so critical scenes could be re-made with North Korean patches and logos.

There is no shortage of action in this movie. If you enjoyed the first movie, you will find ways to enjoy this movie, too. It is not the same story, but uses similar focus on the Eckhart family as the main characters, Wolverines is still the school sports team name, and small unit tactics are still the name of the game.

I will refrain from going into a diatribe explaining the differences. Suffice to say, it is a different movie, speaking to a new generation about a new world of threats. It will do well on the action angle alone.

Should you go see it?? I say yes if you like action movies or underdog movies or if you liked the first movie and are well rounded enough not to expect to see the same movie with new faces. If you do not like explosions, shooting, or violence; then this might not be the movie to see.

Once you have seen it, post your opinions here.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

is it good enough to go to the theatre to watch or wait till it hits the DVD aisle ??
some movies like James Bond, or Star Trek which are geared for the big screen with so much to see.

WildE,

How much did you enjoy the first movie?? It is very big and loud in the theatre.

The movie did illustrate the need to have a BOB ready by the door, incase the neighbour's house gets hit by a planing falling out of the sky.

The movie is paced for the new generation, no slow build up or story building.....speed is the name of the game. It uses an accelerated timeline too keep the blood pressure high. The show does not let off, very often or for very long. It is an adrenaline high, go, go, go.

Hard to say, that it is a must see in theatres......anyone else???

Mountainman.
