So, with my bread machine, I make 2 loafs a day. We use the bread machine to make the dough on the dough setting. Then we separate the dough into two loafs.
I already know that my recipe uses 4 cups of flour per 2 loafs, which breaks down to 18 ten kilogram bags of flour per year.
My calculation I can not seem to figure out is how much yeast, because I'm not sure how to convert tablespoons to gram. If I need 2 tablespoon per 4 cups of flour, how many grams is that?
try this link...yeast is at the bottom of the list.

2 tablespoons per day for 365 days would give you a bit over 13kg of yeast.
is the density of dry yeast 1.23g/ml ???
Easiest would just be to weigh the amount you need and then work out how much you need based on how much is in a package/jar. 🙂
Yeah, that is what I just did, except I would've liked to have figured it out on my own. It turns out I can make 12 loafs with one jar. And that is 113 grams of dry yeast for bread machines.
My next question is this, can I buy bulk dry yeast here in Canada somewhere? Remember, I'm in Quebec, so stores like Bulk Barn, we don't have 🙁
Quebecker, I noticed you are in my old stomping grounds...the Eastern Townships. I think that bulk places are few and far between there, but try health food stores. If you ever go to Montreal, let me know and I will send you a list of Bulk Barns there. Personally, I bought my yeast at an ethnic store in Montreal at about $4.00 per pound, vacuum packed and lasts a long time unopened. Refrigerate after opening and you should be good for a while. If you're not sure, just give it a smell, dead yeast will have a very distinctive sour aroma. Also, yes, dry active yeast works in bread machines so don't spend extra money getting the special stuff.
Nice, there are Bulk Barns in Mtl? My sister in Nova Scotia loves the stores. I'll do an online search for the store locations.
Also, I'd appreciate the name and address of the store with $4 lb yeast. I hate buying them at $5 a jar for 113grams.
Not sure of the address...
The store is called Marche Ackhaven
Sherbrooke St. West at the corner of Grand Boul.
NDG Store :
6170 Sherbrooke W.

True! I use an active dry yeast ... I make my bread old-school or via the machine. I have heard you can use a sour dough starter in your bread machine as well but it has been a few years since I used/kept a starter, I always used it for oven baked loaves (before I bought the bread machine)
That's it...from Champlain bridge head for the 15 north.
Take Sherbrooke St. exit and head west on Sherbrooke...it won't be far...on your left.
Hey everyone, I'm dedicating my show this Sunday to bread...sourdough, no knead, no bake, etc.
I have quite a bit of material already, but could use some input.
Anyone have ideas for post SHTF breadmaking?
Sourdough recipes and starter tips?
Bannok or other no yeast breads?
Post your recipes here or email the to me at deno70@gmail.com
You can also call into the show live if you like on Sunday night.

Well, one of my objectives is to get a good solar oven, so that no matter what, I can bake some bread, well, provided there is sun.. 🙂 but even in winter, you can still use it.
I've also been looking into building a bread oven in my backyard. The thing is, I'll build one here at the house, and one at my retreat site.
