You Prep for the day when there is no longer work, because the power is gone. You prep for the day when the shopping mart no longer has food, and the gas is gone. You prep for the day when the high rise occupants come down from there lofty nests looking for food and a place to live that is below 5 flights of stairs. We prep to protect our children and their children. WE Prepare because the writing on the wall scares the living shit out of us.

Yes Ranger... when there is no work.
My hubby has been told that the centre he works in will be closed in 2014. It took a while for the information to sink in - or rather the reality of the information to sink in.

I am not able to work for health reasons and I am fighting my own battle regarding a disability pension. If I have the pension of course, our situation would not be so dire. However, I don't. And I can't work. So I am not able to bring in any money.
I spent a few hours one night meditating on how I can help my family prepare for this SHTF event in our lives. We have our granddaughter living with us, so it isn't just the two of us, but a child too.

The result of the meditation was - I can make our home the best it can be. I can prepare ahead of time. I can accomplish things at my own speed (because I have two years). So I started educating myself about long term food storage, which makes absolute sense for us. Then I saw the connections for emergencies, then disasters. It all became part of the same process.

Since we are already fairly isolated, I prep to make our home the best it can be for me and my family, no matter what.

And I read this from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
If you prepare for the zombie apocalypse, you are prepared for everything. 😀

Food will get you through times with no money, but money will not get you through times with no food.

I love the Island, I was posted to Chilliwack BC for 4 years, and got a chance to visit the Island a few times. I also love the restaurants on Pender street, More Chinese eateries there than you shake a chopstick at.
