Another warning I received about the nuts, was beware of squirrels. The old man said that as soon as the coating is off, the squirrels will get them real fast.

All the yardwork is done by hand. The topography of my property doesn't allow for a small tractor, and the amount of rocks in the ground doesn't allow for even a rototiller...good for the health though. When my doctor asks me about excersizing, I just laugh and say...just the usual day to day yard work. I don't thing she really understands.

Did a bit more shopping to begin restoring my prep pantry... not the size quantities that I want yet since moving in this past week ( I desperately need to get my hands on some food grade pails and jugs for better storage) but a good start at least.

Bulk pkg soap, cornmeal, dried peas, barley, 2 lg bags trail mix, 12 tin goods, jumbo box of 32 granola bars and a big jug of bleach. Long way to go but we have decided that every trip to the store should include at least 2 items minimum for our prepping.

increased water storage to 150 litres , 3 lbs peanut butter, ghee ( great source of fat and shelf stable), solar/battery/crank radio with NOAA reception. Ordered a small flexible solar panel.

Hi, billyrubin
I didn't know what 'ghee' was so I googled it. I'd not heard of it before, very interesting history, processing, good nutritional points.

More water, hygiene items and a jumbo bottel of Advil ( compliments of a great sale at Shoppers until the 7th!)

It is a very good emergency food. The jar I bought has an expiry date of 2014.

Started studying to get my PAL for non restricted & restricted firearms. Since the courses overlap I figured I might as well go for the whole shebang at once.

Where do you find a list of courses offered?

It's usually a 1-2 day workshop with the test at the end of it. The fastest way to find a course is to ask at a store which sells guns (Cabela's etc) at the gun counter, or locate a shooting range near to you and call them. You're looking for the Canadian Firearms and Safety Course, which is what you need to submit with your application to Purchase or Aquire a firearm.

Figured I would study on my own and challenge the exam...that's how I got my driving permit.
As for a list of courses, if you are in or near Montreal, try calling Club de Tir Ville Saint Pierre...they probably know.

This was organize the basement week and make room for the cold cellar squash and pumpkins. I bought some great plastic shelving at Home Depot. I didn't necessarily get a great deal price-wise but I got very sturdy shelves and in our old and rather damp basement these made good sense.

Today is ketchup making day with the leftover tomatoes - I will be glad to see the end of them!

Home-made ketchup, sounds yummy. Maybe you could post your recipe on the shtf recipes thread? 🙂

I could certainly give you the recipe but perhaps I will make a new thread for canning since I doubt you will be making ketchup in the middle of an emergency 😆
