Well said FNQ.
I can't even read all this, I go away a couple of mouth and your all bickering. I'm with the OddDuck on this one. "post in winter then in the summer"
Howdy Beth,
I hope you do manage to read all of this thread. For you will discover, it was not bickering but a staged event by a member who wanted to see how much chaos they could create. That member was given a "time-out" for their behaviour by the mods.
I would like to think the topic is back on track.
Look forward to seeing more of your posts,
Mountainman.
OK I'm a newbie here - signed on date was - Fri Aug 17, 2012 4:18 pm
My current post count is 378But - what I am trying to say is if 'newbies' are hesitant on posting on here becase they feel they are not allowed - what will there attitude be in a crisis situation.
Howdy FNQ'er-1,
Most excellent point.
Like you I am new here too. I only joined this Forum in March, 2012. I would like to think I can make a difference when I post on a topic. But some topics are outside of my strengths, so instead of answering questions I ask questions.
The people who have a high number of posts, for the most part, are folks who enjoy prepping and want to share what they have learned. To those who are new to prepping, I say, do not be intimidated by these people! Take advantage of this opportunity to exploit their knowledge and get that much more prepared yourself. This is like a distant learning course, that you complete at your own pace, you have an opportunity to complete your course quicker because you are in the company and direct contact with sources of knowledge that can help you!
Carpe Diem,
Mountainman.
I'm new here too but I just thought I'd add in my two cents.
At first I liked the fact that I could hang back and read what I liked without investing anything. It was probably a topic I felt passionate about that got me to post a reply and I recently asked a question. Maybe I am that person you are talking about with the zero's but I am slowly adding to it.
Since it was mentioned about the people here, I found them all understanding, knowledgable and helpful. I personally have not encountered a single 'troll' or any even remotely uncomfortable comment.
I would encourage anyone who is new here to jump on in and give it a go. It really is a great learning experience and everyone is very welcoming.
If your home library contains more volumes about survival-related topics than your local public library, you might be a prepper.
Well said Faraday - I hope others will feel more comfortable posting and asking questions now.
I've been reading this post since the very first day.........just reading as I often do.......and many times I don't log in either.... But I DO comment or ask questions because I feel 'safe' and welcomed here. I appreciate the fact that everyone is different and we are all entitled to our own opinions. The Moderators are excellent and will stop a nasty post in it's tracks.
So gc_mountainman, mission accomplished?

Personally I would like to see some new people with less than 20-30 posts chime in. Would appreciate some of their feedback as well on this subject that GCMtn man started
personal thoughts
Forum's are tricky. There seems to be a minimum number of posts per day, before it will snowball into a large, active forum... I joined planning on being an active contributor, then realized that the forum is somewhat sleepy. So I stopped checking as often. I'm going to keep trying.
Thanks for the responce Fishin,
do you know about the sub forums?
Go to the top and click on Board Index. I had been here a while, before I re-found them.

This one is pretty active and fairly balanced - IMO.
I also take part in other forums and some are amazingly slow as it is near impossible to get others to post - plenty of views - but bugger all posters.
On the flip side another that I rarely go to now is so pig-headed that it's 'There way - or the Highway' needless to say it is a mostly made up of US posters and their mentalities.
This one has the international content or you can just stay within your own sub-forum.
Personally i start at the 'PORTAL' see what might be an interesting thread then go to my countries sub-forum then check the '[ View your Posts]' section - often find interesting input in these three areas.
I'm old, tired and crotchety - what's your excuse???
It also just dawned on me that the topic of prepping, is one that can be afflicted with paranoia... No doubt you have tonnes of people wanting to share lots of information, but worried about the consequences of doing so. Anybody could be reading this stuff.

Yes... anybody could be reading this stuff. As long as what is discussed is legal and sane there is little to worry about. I personally do net see the point of divulging exactly what your preps are... type, numbers etc. What IS valuable is knowledge. How you prep and experience and knowledge you have to share. THIS is the greater point of this site and similar ones as well. So long as what you have to say remains within legal bounds then you aren't any worse off than the person who buys "survival gear" online. Perhaps the "consequences" of not sharing would be just as bad... or worse.
JAB
Knowledge is good JAB, but collecting things is just as important. Not much good came from knowing how to swing a hammer without owning one in the first place. I do see your point as being, what is the point of owning a hammer if you don't know how to swing one. They are both equally important.
I have collected a hord of SHTF WROL Tactical....Socks. They dont all match. A secret insider has revealed that the sock police might consider me a terrorist. Im a little woried that in a crisis the government will confiscate my socks. Roving gangs will be a problem and I plan on defending my socks. Sadly, this post is true...and relivant...but not very interesting.
There. Ive made my manditory post. Can I still be part of the club. LOL 😎
I have a Tactical Harness and I have a Tool Belt. The Tool Belt is more Useful.

I completely agree Gravlore. The idea I was trying to get across was more that the "things collected" don't necessarily need to be enumerated or dislosed online. I can talk about all the types of and ways to use a hammer... without actually disclosing the type and number of hammers I possess. 😉
