I hear a lot about solar flares ect, but what about the pole shift that could happen when the sun orbit close to the earth which I have read might happen, and if that happens what scares me is what is going to happen toAustralia ,some say a 2km wave will. Cover all of Australia and othes think that WA will be taken over by fast rising waters. How do we prepare for that I have a new born and i want to give her a chance for a future... Thankyou any ideas. 😳

You would do the same as most of us do. Pray and hope that it will not happen in our lifetime.

I think it depends on what you read. The "How to survive 2012" website is all doom and gloom and how Australia is going to "sink". I've been reading this stuff for a while now and one site I did find (written by a science geek I believe) gives a damn good explanation of what all the scientific "mumbo-jumbo" is all about. I've attached the link, but at the end of the day each person will believe what they want. I hope this helps!

You really have to be carefull what you read about these days. A complete polar shift is not believed to have happened in the past 700 000 + years, although they do occur on average about every 300 000. Therefor, we may be overdue. However, we don't really know what the effects would be, as no one recorded the event back then. Personally, I think it's a bunch of hype.

Try the NASA link below...

A polar shift can happen at any time, tomorrow or a hundred years from now. What will happen if it does? who the F*** knows, mostly right now its all speculation. Mother nature does not work on our clocks. The worst that can happen, we all die real slow, due to mega volcanoes erupting and covering the stratosphere with dust. ( see the movie "The road" ), everything gets better from there. If were going all die, A nice mega CME, will fry the world within minutes. No more wars, no more pollution, just the 3rd rock from the sun.

Actually, the polar shift is happening right now. All the doom and gloom says that it will happen all of a sudden. It's been going on for some time now. Many major airports have had to redesignate their runways because they no longer run in the same direction as originally. Even though we don't really notice it, the GPS units on planes do and show an error. The good news is, the north pole is shifting toward Russia.
Even though I remember the information, I can't remember exactly where I saw it. Possibly an old post on the extinction protocol site.

You are right tas, but the poles have always been moving around, that’s why we always needed an update on the magnetic declination when ever we use the military maps.
http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2003/29dec_magneticfield/
In 1831 it was just above the 70th parallel, and was tracked every 20 years, in 2001 it was at the 81st parallel. When the earth core does a major wobble, then they worry, but right now its just creeping along at 35 miles a year.

Even though the declination changes every year, it actually moves around in a big circle, so that eventually it will start to become smaller over time. Then, as it continues to move it will again start to increase. The GPS system is calibrated to account for this. However, I was talking about a pole shift. There are two schools of thought in the scientific community. One side points to evidence of sudden and catastrophic shift, the other points to evidence of gradual pole shift. Right now the poles are showing signs of a gradual shift. This is why the GPS system can no longer compensate, so runways have to be redesignated. That's not to say that at some point it won't hit a critical tipping point and sudden acceleration. Much like a toy spinning top that starts to wobble then suddenly falls over. Right now though, because of the rate of movement, it appears that the tipping point isn't going to happen for several generations. But hey, the guys with the large heads have been wrong before. We can only hope they're not wrong this time. 😕

Susannah, thanks for that link to the psuedoastronomy blog...

I read the entire page and I'm going to continue reading more articles as time permits. I enjoy a little science with my risk assessments. It allows me to better focus my preps on the more likely outcomes in my lifetime. We only have so much that we can allocate for each type of shtf scenario; I'd like to hedge my bets on those that are plausible.

You are welcome Dangphool - I always like 2 sides to the argument! (same reason as you do)
