We have been getting heavy snow falls, time after time the last couple weeks.
Way more than normal.
Yesterdays storm came in and still effecting many places this morning.
Can ya imagine driving any where in 25 cm and up to 40 cm of snow? We are talking some very mountainous hwys with deadly curves and vast climbs and steep drops to navigate these hwys.
Many of the major hwys are effected, that the truckers use to supply stores, are now closed due to high avalanche hazards.
No possible detours available, as those hwys are also effected.
They are saying the hwys may be opened by tonight...might!
We now have trucks lined up one behind the other, waiting for possible openings.
Meanwhile ppl are still hitting stores and soon the limited amounts that were there, will be nothing but bare shelves.
To anyone that are thinking of traveling the hwys..please, please check before you go at: http://drivebc.ca/mobile/pub/events/majorevents.html
Better to be delayed at home, as being stuck on the side of a road and in the way of the road clearing crews.
Be safe everyone!
If you have to travel,(along with your normal winter preps in the vehicle) take along a good shovel, along with a chainsaw or any saw for that matter. Trees have and are still coming down across traveling areas, as well as else where.
Mods, I'm not sure if this is in the right place to post this, feel free to move if need be. 🙂
EDIT: Temps are now rising above freezing. We are getting bombed from trees loaded with heavy snow/ice. Think what that will do for the mtn. passes.
I cleared a roof yesterday as soon as I heard this was coming. What I didn't expect when I went up top was thick layers of ice under it. I expected some but not as much as there was.
Also there was an over hang of ice and snow about 8 inches in certain areas of it.
Please be sure your roof (s) are cleared of dangerous heavy snow and be sure someone knows you are going up there, before you go up!!
A sense of humor is absolutely essential to survival.
Good post and warning
Hopefully all will be safe and thank for the reminders, we have also had to do snow removal in our neck of the woods, and I have a number of friends that have had their portable sheds collape, no real surprise there to me with the snow we have been getting..
