Jab,
I understand certain people's resentment towards government, but there are a few points you made that I would hope you could expand upon and explain your point of view.
First of all, you quote from Lincoln is inspiring, but cannot be applied to any countries governmental structure other than the USA. How do you see this applied to the Canadian Constitution of 1982?
Secondly, could you please point out precisely which rights in regards to food, healthcare, and personal independence are being controlled and eroded and how.
Thirdly, how do you see fit to proclaim preppers as a resistance against the government?

I certainly understand the point of view that today's government may and can cater to corporations and special interest groups, as elections are won and lost on political funding from these sources. However, to label preppers as a resistance to government is irresponsible. Perhaps you have an idea how our governmental system could be improved upon.

In no way did I "proclaim preppers as a resistance to government" and I am in no way labelling preppers as a resistance to government. What I am saying is that with the government (of the US) labelling and including prepper behaviour as a potential terrorist act that the government may SEE us as having the ability to be independent. I do not see this directly applied to the Canadian Constitution but since the US is our neighbor and has a huge amount of control here both politically and economically I do believe the potential exists for what happens there in all realms to spill over here.
It is the inherent right of human beings to eat, to have shelter, to feel safe. The Corporate agenda related to food with GMO's is to ultimately remove the ability of farmers to grow anything other than industrialized crops. This results in the corporation controlling the supply of seed and grossly reducing the ability of farmers to save seed from their own harvests to replant for the next season. Example is the lawsuit regarding patent infringement that Monsanto launched against a farmer who's crop was cross pollinated by GMO corn.
Relating to healthcare a large percentage of the US population has little or no healthcare. Many go bankrupt and/or die through lack of funds.
Since 9/11 there has been a steady erosion of the rights of the individual in both countries. Detention without legal recourse or the Government having to produce evidence. "The Anti-Terrorism Act includes several provisions that authorize secret court hearings, prohibit disclosure of the identity of participants in proceedings, and conceal the contents of evidence from the accused. These are departures from the previous general rule that court hearings are open to the public and the press, the identity of all witnesses, lawyers and judge are public, and the accused is permitted to see and hear all evidence against him or her."
Related to personal security and independence..."Expanded Scope of Domestic Surveillance
One of the main criticisms of the post-9/11 anti-terrorism initiatives is their overly broad scope, resulting in widespread surveillance of the general public. In Canada, this issue was the focus of much criticism for the proposed Public Safety Act, 2002. In his comments about Bill C-17, the Privacy Commissioner of Canada stated:
This is unprecedented. The Government of Canada has absolutely no business creating a massive database of personal information about all law-abiding Canadians that is collected without our consent from third parties, not to provide us with any service but simply to have it available to use against us if it ever becomes expedient to do so. Compiling dossiers on the private activities of all law-abiding citizens is the sort of thing the Stasi secret police used to do in the former East Germany. It has no place in a free and democratic society."
Let me state VERY CLEARLY. I in NO WAY advocate that preppers are a "resistance to government". The quote from Lincoln can apply to any political system that purports to be a Democracy. For it to be truly democratic and representative of the people there must be a way to ensure that elected representatives are accountable to their constituents. If we had the process whereby we could recall an elected member and replacing him or her then it would be more functional from the general public's view. At this time the member is elected then follows the formal policy of the leader of the party they belong to.

excuse my ignorance to the situation, but:

The majority of preppers stockpile food, medicine, water and emergency equipment. What part of the domestic surveillance will affect preppers as potential terrorists?

"Re: Natural News Article "Preppers Owed Apology"

by Fishin_E » Tue Nov 13, 2012 3:01 am

The part that struck me about that article was the part about preppers being equated to terrorists. I have long suspected that the war on terror is really just a war on dissidents, and I suppose by prepping you are showing your dis-trust in the system to keep you healthy and safe at all times. Are we really entering an Orwellian era of big brother? I suppose that we have entered an age where the economy is so leveraged, it doesn't really run on goods and services, so much as the belief that things (stocks) will grow eternally... Preppers show common sense by acknowledging that the economy has it's limits, especially when battered by storms, which it itself helped create through global warming. Are preppers soon becoming enemy's of the government by suggesting that goods, services, and the grid will not always grow and plausibly collapse?"
This is the post I was responding to. It seems my effort was taken incorrectly.

JAB,

I had a well worded reply, but it was lost to the computer gods.

In short, a self-sufficient population is a threat to any government that uses food, energy or fuel to control its population. Like in Somalia, food is a weapon. In old Scotland, salt was the means to control and starve the many - it was the means to perserve meat.

Starving people are not a threat, unless they can get around the control of food. Hungry people are a threat. People who have nothing to lose are a threat.

I will post this before it is lost, again.

Anyone that questions the status quo, or the ability of Government to maintain said status can & will always be percieved as a threat to those that wish to subjugate the masses /// Politicians by & large are funded and promoted through "special" interest groups who will always ensure that their values & long term gains are taken care of by promoting a candidate that will repatriate their funding /// To question the direction which they are taking is a direct affront to their ability to manage their own agendas and that of their benefactors, which could not be possible at all without the "buy-in" of said masses /// The best example of this going side-ways would be the French Revolution /// Call me what you will, but the basic fact remnains that we are all slaves to someone until we question it (as in preparing for a time when we believe they cannot take care of us), then we are a threat.

Twenty3rdPsalm,

Well stated. I believe you see the point JAB was getting at.

JAB,

The point I forgot to mention in my last post that did make it, was the label "terrorist". If you can use and get the "terrorist" label to stick, you can get away with taking any action to eliminate the "terrorist" threat. Now if some misguided government gets a little out of control and starts to label its own citizens as "terrorist", we have a problem. Now if the government types can get the "terrorist" label to stick on preppers, we will be hunted to the ends of the Earth. Anyone remember an old 80's TV series "V"?? In that show the "visitors" label the scientist as a threat, and the sheeple turn on the scientists.

If you can control the masses, you have power.

Twenty3rdPsalm,

Okay, it was a weak example. But it was one that was available to popular culture over public airwaves. How many are familiar with a social experiment "blue eyes/ brown eyes"?? I forgot who conducted the experiment or which years, I am thinking it was late 70's or early 80's. The experiment went to use children and divided them into groups based on eye colour. The children were led to believe the colour of your eyes determined who was the boss and who was the follower. It did not take long for things to get out of hand - think "Lord of the Flies". For those familiar with the experiment, you will understand the statement I made about being able to control the masses = power. Maybe the experiment has made it to YouTube. If I can recall another, stronger example of - other than the nazi's, I will try to post it later.

JAB,

Getting back to using the label "terrorist" and the power it holds. IF, and that is a big IF, the government wanted to make a real dent in crime they (government) would label the Hell's Angels, street gangs and the mafia's in our country as "terrorists" which of course they are. And then the CF could use the "terrorist" ROE's (rules of engagement) like in Afghanistan and neutralise the threat to Canadian society. But that will never happen. That would be using the label "terrorist" to benefit the average citizen. I believe when the label starts to get applied it will be to the detrement (sp) of the ordinary citizen. And yes, some special interest groups could very easily find themselves on the receiving end of the label/smear paint brush.

It is in the best interest of government agencies to promote the existance of "terrorists". Here is a link to another ludicrous example of government agencies gone crazy. This is a US example but I am sure many others are not far behind.

A Quote from one of my favorite novels of all time about sums up not only G.W.B's "War on Terror", but IMHO the current state of our global hierachy:

"In accordance to the principles of Doublethink, it does not matter if the war is not real, or when it is, that victory is not possible. The war is not meant to be won. It is meant to be continuous. The essential act of modern warfare is the destruction of the produce of human labor. A hierarchical society is only possible on the basis of poverty and ignorance. In principle, the war effort is always planned to keep society on the brink of starvation. The war is waged by the ruling group against its own subjects. And its object is not victory over Eurasia or Eastasia, but to keep the very structure of society intact."

Now if you will view "Starvation" as not that of the body not getting food (At least not yet in 1st world Countries, but we are getting there with the current class seperation), but rather starvation of freedom (replaced with Fear), expression of one's views, coming & going without the need to identify one's self (something my & your grandfathers died for - papers please...) and our fathers, and perhaps some of you stood for during the Cold War (my own was 1st Guards 54' to 57' on the Black Sea), I'm sure you'll see that fear is a very useful weapon in keeping the masses in check whilst alowing Government & their financial backers (Global Coporations) to operate un-checked.

I know I am new to this forum & I mean no disrespect to anyone, so I appoligise in advance if I am crossing conduct lines here /// If I am, please stand for youself & say so - exercise your Freedom to do so (I just did)

As Always to All...
