Just curious if anyone in Eastern Ontario / Western Quebec has gone to past Valley Fishing & Outdoor Shows? Was it worth the time and the $8 entrance fee? Planning on going this year?
This year, it's being held in Carp in just under 2 weeks time (April 5, 6,7). It seems very fishing (muskie in particular) and turkey hunting oriented. Not that those are not interesting topics, but I was hoping they'd have a little bit of everything for the Outdoors. The most info I've been able to find is here: http://www.valleysportsmanshow.com/VFOS

Report on the Show (aka Just my 5 Cents 😉 )
The show was spread over three buildings. One at one end of the fairgrounds and the other two at side-by-side buildings on the other side of the fairgrounds. The building on it's own was the gun show portion. We met some knowledgeable people there but I'd say more than half were used gun dealers, a few trinket dealers, and on ly a couple of new gun dealers. It was great to see the selection and talk to the experts. One of the more interesting people to talk to was a gentleman who is an Armourer from Almonte. He will clean and repair firearms, but also trains people on long distance shooting. At another table, one of the dealers was also selling MRE's. When I asked him which he prefered, he answered "I'd have to be starving to eat those things!" 😕 Well, I appreciated his honesty! There was not one display in that building about training or PAL licenses. One note on that - we were warned by one of the dealers that his clients are experienced longer wait times than usual to get their PAL license after completing the training. Apparently this is seen as some kind of protest move against government cutbacks.
The other two buildings housed the main portion of the show. The Kanata Archery Club had a little balloon target range set up for people to try (at which I embarrased myself - I remember being able to shoot straight, honest! 😳 ). There were some little fishing games for the kids, and quite the display of taxidermy. The final building held most of the vendors. I can't say I saw any deals there, but I was certainly inspired about some of the tools I'll want in my preps (can you say pink camo crossbow!! Yeah, neither can I. 😯 ) As we were leaving, there was an animal show and tell going on - the red tail hawk was impressive, but only because the handler was taking him out just after we left so we stopped and got to see him up close! 😀
I'm glad I went. Don't know that I'd go again. This is your roving Prepper Reporter on the job!
