I know that having SHELTER, FIRE and WATER are the top three things to have but I am running into a problem with a secondary water purification method. I have tablets like most but I am not sure what type of portable filter to get. Any suggestions? Has to be small enough not to take up so much room in my BOB.

In each of my two B.O.B.'s I carry:

- Aqua Tabs to purify water
- A Berkey Sport Bottle that has its own Filtration straw system for questionable water sources
- Sechelle Water Filter Straw (Link: http://www.bridensolutions.ca/seychelle-water-filter-straw )

All are extremely lightweight and take up almost zero room in a B.O.B.

I second the Berkey Sport Bottle and the Aqua tabs. Portable, cost effective and THEY WORK!!!!!

You need a water bottle anyway, the Berkey does double duty as a container and purifying. A tin cup will nestle right around it in storage giving you a boiling container you can carry anywhere. I do carry some tabs and a bigger pot for snow in the car.

Lifestraw !
plus the Berkey water bottle filter
I do not like tabs so much due to the chemicals,

also is this your full BOB or a Go bag?
if full BOB then I would want my bulk water filter system with me as it is small and light, about the size of half the Berky bottle. That way it is easy to fill one container with pur water from another container that has the questionable water. This is necessary if your in a group, such as a family or you are the cook that day for your .. group

Check out LifeStraw as an emergency backup option, cheap, lightweight and disposable.

I went with the Seychelle 28 oz Advanced bottle..very similar to the Berkey bottle...just a bit bigger.
The berkey bottle filters about 107 liters, where the Seychelle fliters about 378.
The Seychelle just seemed more economical to me with the same claims about pathogens, chemicals, heavy metals etc.

I have a Sawyer water bottle, and quite a few water purification tablets.

Thanks denob. When I am camped for the summer,I have to travel out to a cousins for water.Drinking and cooking average 8 liters per day.So the seychelles would give me full 6 to 7 weeks of water if I lost my source. That is great news .What is the cost?

I think it was $15.95 for the Straw filter and $31.95 for the 28oz water bottle filter system.
