There seems to be an increasing amount of discussion in the media about a world wide economic collapse in the coming weeks.

I'm not buying into this as I believe it will happen per say when they are perhaps not expecting it and probably after the US elections.

I knew a fellow years ago that had worked for ASIO (Australia's CIA) and he said never believe what the media is telling you, chance is it is the complete opposite of what they are saying.

Still I do worry about time frames with prepping as with most people I can only afford so much each week to set aside for storage.

We are subdividing our land and hoping to sell part of it off to at least reduce greatly or completely our debt but keep wondering if we are going to be beaten by the clock!

Unfortunately Australian real estate is so expensive.

How many of you guys are still carrying a mortgage and have you plans to get rid of it in the short term? If so how?

Damned subdivisions take so long to go through and we have the slowest surveyor on the planet....grrrrr!

i think an economic collapse is very likely. especiall in the US if you look at their debt counter you will be amazed.
http://www.usdebtclock.org/ as i speak they are only 230 million away from 16 trillion dollars debt.
i say only because of how fast the counter goes up and as i check it again they are only 228 million away. the rate their debt is going up is crazy and cannot be stopped unless their government pulls out of all their conflicts and sells ALOT of assets. that may not even work. and if they did stop borrowing money their dollar would go poop and be worth nothing.
its started its spiral of death and cannot be stopped especially when both presidents of the US seem to want to put more money into the wars.

I have mini panic attacks quite often that a collapse will happen sooner than I'm ready. I've only been prepping a year, and very slowly being on a very limited income as a single Mom. I don't follow the media much as I don't trust 99% of what is being said, so I'm not aware of the latest news on economic collapse happening right away. I,too, have thought for some time it will happen after the election, but everything just seems to be on such a brink these days, it's hard to say when it could happen. The US is a ticking time bomb. I'm a renter so I don't have a mortgage to have to deal with, but I do worry that one day my landlords will need to get rid of the house for want of getting out of a mortgage, and that would then leave me packing up my stuff. I just keep praying for more time to get more preps together. That's all I can do.

Totally agree. We're planning on listing our inner city home in the next week or so. Specifically to get the heck out of a major city centre. We do have a mortgage, but that will be paid off instantly with the sale of our home and we should have a tidy little sum to think about as well. We're hoping to find some land (isn't everyone in Alberta? Good freakin' luck there, eh?) but in the meantime get a BOV and trailer ready. Unfortunetly, we're also going to be buying another home. What?!?! Yep. We'd love to rent but with a toddler and a large lab, it's pretty much impossible. Everyone who rents property out is currently looking for a Type A couple with OCD for cleaning, no kids, no pets and lots of $$$. Boo! So yeah, minimum downpayment (so we don't cry when we walk away from it) and all fingers crossed.

I'm totally like you BCPrepGirl: many, many mini panic attacks that SHTF before I'm ready. We're hoping to sell the house in mere weeks, but who the heck knows. Sigh....stressed to the max with a teething toddler over here. Ugh. 🙁 Needless to say, lots of praying and prepping going on over here.

It might seem like we're trying to eat an elephant in one bite! But the best way is one bite at a time........ the slow and steady approach is the only way us single Moms can do it. Try to focus on all the prepping you've already done and give yourself a pat on the back! And just keep plugging away, a little bit at a time, one can at a time..... 🙂

It can be hard for sure, finding landlords who will rent to non-OCD couples 🙂 Most of my landlords have been absolutely terrible, but there's been a few really great ones, including the ones I have now. I have two young kids, two dogs, and I work from home, all in a small 2 bedroom house. They could tell I'm good people, so they had no problem renting to me. I'm so glad, because I don't think I could have tolerated another crappy landlord!

That's definitely a good thing to keep in mind PrepHer. Thanks 🙂 It can seem so daunting at times, especially when you're going it alone! I've never been a slow and steady kind of gal. I'm actually rather impatient, but I'm learning as I go 🙂

Thanks for the link MarlPrepper. The US national debt just topped 16 trillion dollars! To see this and much more depressing financial new for the US follow Marls link: http://www.usdebtclock.org/

One projected estimate there has the gross debt at 130% of GDP by 2016. Clearly not sustainable!

thats fine ICRCC thats what this forum is for right? here in new zealand i think the rebuild after a collapse will be faster than other 1st world countries as we have lots of farms. thing i really worry about is if theres a economic collapse and a solar flare. then the world would be royally screwed for the next few decades.

Good video explaining the massive amount of debt in the USA and how taxing will not solve anything.

the process could take up to two months and the shoe maker would better be able to describe the time frame required. Contact the shoe make and ask but the shipping should also be allotted 3-4 week in addition to the making of the shoes thus leading to approximately 2 months.
