The HERC™ Oven is designed to harness the thermal energy from tea light candles storing it in quarry stones. The patent pending design of the HERC™ uses not one but two methods of thermal energy transfer. Like your conventional oven HERC™ uses convection and electromagnetic radiation (radiant) like the sun heats you when you step outside. Fueled by tea light candles makes baking & cooking without the use of electricity or gas easy, economical and even fun! The HERC™ Oven provides an alternative cooking method for your family in the events of limited resources and/or emergency situations.

Do you remember those little folding box stoves back in the 70's? http://krebsenterprise.net/pro900643.html
We used to use a tobacco can with a roll of TP stuffed tight in it, and then doused it with naptha camp fuel, diesel, whatever you had and lit them. You'd cap them out with the tobacco lid and they'd stink up your packsack and cloths somewhat when you went camping... they took up no room in a pack sack and doubled as a butt wipe container until you added the fluid. 🙁 I'd like to have another for some stupid reason 😆 ...must be I'm sentimental or maybe just mental 😯

Find a couple tobacco cans and yer set to make your own burner below following my well described "patent pending" refuelable and refutably smelly burner. This design will outlive anything Coleman ever made cause there will never be a day TP doesn't outlive a campstove.... even gas would likely work but I've never gone that far as thats seems dangerous even to me 😛 😮 😕

Do they ship to Canada ?

I would not get the bigger one as it uses 20 candles , so there is 2 other models
that use 10 candles .

One problem is in a long term SHTF , you will run out of tea light candles, then what ?

Fascinating idea on this one. Not that using candles is the perfect solution, but it is an elegant solution and one that is very non-threatening for people to learn and looks to provide a huge confidence boost due to its similarity to using a conventional oven. A 'gateway' prepping device as it were.

With all of our combined assets on this board, would anyone care to suggest some DIY versions? A means of capturing the ease of usability, but using readily accessible materials for the backyard tinkerer?

There are several "how to" make your own Herc using an old microwave or toaster oven. I don't know how good the instructions are as I have not tried it myself.

As soon as I can find the other link for using a microwave I will post it.

We often get power cuts and occasionally use one tea light to boil a kettle. It is capable of heating the kettle quite a few times before it goes out. Using ten tealights to make an oven seems rather a waste of tea lights which might be better spent giving out light or heating some soup in a pan. However, it is good to have these solutions at your disposal even if you don't want to use them.
