Does anyone have experience cooking in a "wonder bag" "wonder oven" (so many names for it) I've been doing for about a year now and have had a fair bit of success. It was easy to make and it has saved me lots of electricity. I like that I can put a huge pot of chili in it and not have to babysit the stove all day.

I use a shuttle chef or just do the blankets around a pot in a box.

Yes, we have used this in our group and a few of us use them on a regular basis. They love it.

If you have specific questions, I may be able to have one of them pm you.

Hello Smor! I use the wonder oven also and really like it with the exception of oatmeal made overnight, but to be honest it don't care for it in any form...lol... I have found recipes online at "The thermal cooker thermal cooking web blog" & I really like the ones at "Wonderbagworld.com" choose Canada and there is a recipe section that I just printed off and keep with my cook books.

Hello Smor

I use the wonder oven also and as lgsbrooks said for those recipes to get. The oatmeal turns out quite stiff, although quite tasty as those that like it said. All that has to be done is add a bit of warm milk or water to thin a bit after it is done.

You could also as like chili, use an already cooked soup heated up and put into the wonder oven for the day.

I shelled out for a thermal cooker from Saratoga Jacks, and although it was more coin than I care to spend, it is a really well made product that does what it says. I find it makes a LOT of food, even with the "small" 5.5l pot I purchased, so most of my single-meal thermal cooking gets done in a 710ml wide-mouth Thermos vacuum bottle. When I need several days' worth of food, the big thermal cooker works well. I've been considering making another one, from a styrofoam container, just shaping/cutting some blue styrofoam insulation to fit a medium-sized (say, 2l) pot into it. Seems like an easy enough thing to do.

Pretty firm believer in the thermal cooker, for liquid-type meals (stew, chili, soup); I think it is the most energy efficient way to cook. It's important to have the pot as full as possible when it goes in the container.
