Hi, this summer i picked up a tomahawk from self reliance called the ETA in a scout version. It is a great tool. I have had it sharpened on all the edges allong with having paracord wrapped around the handle. The length of it is 19.5 inches and the weight is 2lbs with the sheith. The weight and length are ideal for me. I have had plenty of other axes/tomahawks and they are much heavier or the handle is way shorter. Currently the tool is attached to my bob with a nice sheith system that self reliance has designed. No worries about ever having it fall out .

For me i find it to be balanced well. The only downfall is that there is no flat edge to use as a hammer. Oh well. I make up for this with my wifes gerber on her pack. Their is cons to a spike though too. They could have placed a flat edge on the side but they have placed three holes at that location. Must be a weight saving factor along with to help balance it. Plus adds a coolness factor.lol

It is not a full breaching tool unlike the gg&g battlehawk that i also have. It is so thick but also extremly heavy. The self reliance is designed however for light breeching according to the info i herd. On self reliance web site and you tube they do have a video of these hawks used as throwers. I have not used it as a thrower yet myself though.

Overall the self reliance tomahawks are a good multi purpose tool that is lightweight enough to be carried around able to perform when needed. I have had many modern tomahawks over the years and this in my opioion is the best to my liking by far.

There are some good reviews of the self reliance tomahawks being used in combat in Iraq and Af.. I see now on their web site they already changed the name and product slightly. These are very expensive to purchase however.

Very nice. I like the paracord wrapped around it. Good thinking.

I like your Tommy! I carry a Condor throwing Tommy that I braided a handle for with black para chord. I just picked up an m48 Kommando from United with sheath. Very light piece and has the same weight as most of my old Ice axes. Do you use it for light chopping duty as well. I like the idea of carrying about two or three pieces of cutting tools when Im out in the local mountains. Saves me from using my light duty knives for chopping. How about you?

I was serching for a multi purpose tool to use for light chopping, defence , digging, etc . It had to be light enough to carry all day, have a long handle and have good strength. This met all my criteria. I had plenty of other axes/tomahawks in the past but they fell short in my requirements. The only downfall I have with this product is there is no flat edge for using as a hamer to pound in stakes, etc. However the manufacture has corrected this isse with a new model.
In the past i carried a small gerber pac axe . But it is very small and has little use for defence. I also used some knives in the past for light chopping. One was one that I made myself

Allenvirgil posted a picture entitled "my butterfly knives". Butterfly knives are a prohibited weapon pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada, Section 84(1). I would ask that he remove the photograph in the post. However the title is actually a link to weapons-universe.com, therefore I think that the post was probably spam.

Keep us posted on that new model with the blunt end. I would be interested in a model like that myself. I'm trying to thing of how I can redesign my old ice axes into a usefull diggind and prying tool. I was thinking of griding down the chissel end and reconfiguring the shape. It already has a cleat in the handle which can be ground down for pounding stakes but I heard STUBAI already has something like that in market in Europe. Keeping my eyes peeled. Im a bit of a gear freak as you probably guessed! 😆
