I've taken off the screw, but it just won't budge. Is it just really stuck on? After all these years?

Yup, just stuck.

Don't tap on the wood, just find something wide to tap on both curved arm bases (Blunt chisel?) at once.

If you're planning on refinishing it anyway, let some break free CLP work its way in for a few days before trying.

Worst case, a new wood one can be had used on Canadian Gunnutz.
