Hi,

Each month I renew all the meds I need to take to stabilize my bipolar disorder but I am wondering if a pharmacist would be allowed to sell me 2-3 month worth of pills at once so that I could pack them up? I am covered by a private insurance, maybe they wouldn't allow it.

Your thoughts? Thank you,

Patricia

Here in Quebec, we are waiting for a really useful piece of legislation to take effect.
In a nutshell, pharmacists will be able to renew prescriptions without a doctor.
When this comes into effect, perhaps claiming that your purse, along with your meds was stolen from your office and get a refill.
Not sure if it would work, or when pharmacists may be able to do this, but it's a thought.
As for the insurance, that depends on your policy...check it out with your insurance company.

Just my 2 cents.
Some of my meds are on the "banded" list, meaning they won't sell me more then a month at a time because of the street value. I would discuss with your doctor and be up front on why you want additional meds. My doctor has some as samples they I could have for my BOB if I needed them. Every 3rd set of refills (works out to twice a year), my doctor gives me a higher then needed doze so I have "back up".

They will only give you a three month supply of any prescription. When I asked to fill out more of mine they accused me of trying to OD on my meds. 😐 What I do now is refill my prescription a week before they run out and then I keep that week. If you keep doing this (as long as your meds don't change) you will have a nice reserve built up.
