Just wondering how many people have some gill netting stashed away for after SHTF? It will make a world of difference for fishing, you can set it up and come back later or have a person on either side of a creek dragging the netting sifting the fish out as you go. Of course unless you have a commerical lisence don't get caught using one now.

Good point - now I am curious. these not only supply the table but they are nice and quiet also.
Who else has a gill or cast net handy in there kit????
I'm old, tired and crotchety - what's your excuse???
I really enjoy fishing and do it very often, I have a cast net in my house, but im not very good at throwing it 🙁 however i think is a very is a very useful but also very delicate tool, it usually getts broken easy, and ist really complicated to fix the holes, I usually take it to an expert
I have gill and caste both in my gear, I was also taught when I was young how to make in an emergency and mend them. In canada it is also good if you learn how to run out a gill net with a ice walker for under ice setting on frozen lakes or ponds.
Things I say are my opinion, which is like belly buttons everybody has one.
Anything I say is not meant to anger or offend just to encourage discussion between adults.
Can anyone post a canadian supplier
I sell them, you could also try some commercial fishing paces in your area might be able to get some used netting as well.

While I think you can buy them, at least in Ontario I think it is illegal to fish with them. So practice privately? XD. Or save it for the collapse of society.
if you have the time and you arent looking for a 50 footer your plan old volley ball badminton net does the same thing you just have to tie on ropes both ends javex jugs on the top and lead on the bottom heck of alot easyer to find a volleyball net then find a commercial gillnet alot let questions from mnr too
Thanks Goldbug 79 - I've been looking at Gill nets for awhile. The price both in Canada & Florida is pretty high. Thanks for the idea of the old volleyball nets, I think I can work with this and use the money saved for something I can't MacGuyver.
I sell survival ones for $22.95 12 feet x 4 feet

An inuit guy I met this summer was telling me that when they string their nets under the ice they use a gizmo that they put in the first hole and with the light rope tethered to it, tug on the rope and it moves along under the ice. Once they get it over as far as their net is long, they drill the next hole and grab it and are able to pull their net through. Of course they only do this when the ice is forming up as getting a hole through 10 ft of ice tends to be more difficult.
He also told me that they will put a light on the gizmo and do it at night if the ice is white or getting thick as they will be able to see where they are at.
I'm kicking myself for not getting more info from him but will find out more when I am back up there in the spring.
This sure beats drilling a lot of holes in a line and trying to catch a board pushed thru the first hole
