Hi,
I live in the Lower Mainland of BC with my husband and four boys. I've been prepping for some time but it's a long road to get to a year's supply especially when the kids seem eat non-stop. I'm looking for any companies that sell supplies in the Vancouver area especially the 5 gallon mylar bags, plastic pails and food in #10 cans. I've found a few places in BC & Canada that sells food storage but the shipping cost adds a lot and I'm always on a budget. I don't know any other preppers personally though I've tried to get a few friends on board (without any success) so I'm hoping to get a bit of a community from this message board.

Welcome to the forum Foxglove. Community is what we're all about. As far as food storage companies in BC, I don't know of any off hand, but I will look onto it for you. Hope you enjoy the site.
Welcome, Foxglove. We are just starting to build our virtual prepper community, so you are in at the beginning so to speak. You could try calling the LDS distibution center in Langley, BC (1-604-513-9442), explaining you're situation and asking if they serve the general public. They may have mylar bags and oxi paks to get you started or they may be able to suggest other options for you. (If they don't sell to the public please be kind if you vent to us - I'm LDS 🙂 )
My step daughter is working as a carpenter on the island. BEAUTIFUL country in BC. Welcome!
Hope for tomorrow; Learn from yesterday; Live for today.
There are some distributors of food storage in BC but they are in Vernon, Smithers and Golden I think it was, the closest one to me is a five hour drive. Even though they are in BC once you add in the HST and the shipping costs all of a sudden an order is quite a bit more. I have gone to the LDS food centre in Langley a few times and they've always been extremely helpful and welcoming however I'd like to get some things that they don't carry. If I can't find anyone close by I might just have to bite the bullet and pay for shipping. I'm quite envious of the cheap shipping costs in the US, I sent a bracelet to a friend for her birthday and it was $8 by Canada Post!
You have been to the Langley LDS? What do they have there? How are the prices? Been planning on going there, but never been to a place like that so I am very curious to check it out. Thanx!
Hi Canadianpatriot1973
You can view the price list at http://www.providentliving.org/content/display/0,11666,8133-1-4352-1,00.html You need to call ahead and arrange a day & time. There are some items already in #10 cans but if what you want isn't then they will show you how to use the canning machine, very easy to use. They sell everything at cost so their prices are more than fair however I can sometimes get sugar for less when a store has a loss-leader sale. What I did was bought just one #10 can of some things to try it out and see if we'd like it, I realized that the kids weren't crazy about the juice powder. Good to figure that out before buying a lot of it. I've always gone without kids so I'm not sure on their policy about having them there. I've included their address & phone number below, it's on the website providentliving.org under locations if you need to find it later on. Hope that helps.
