Just saying hello to everyone from the Avalon region of Newfoundland. I'm new to this forum but not new to the concept of prepping. I've been doing a lot of work in the past couple of years regarding passive solar thermal heating for my house. I've been preparing both for a long term absence of the electrical grid as well as electricity rates doubling when the new Muskrat Falls hydroelectric dam comes online in a few years.

I've built several solar thermal heating panels for my house and use them to provide wintertime space heating as well as domestic hot water in the summertime. They have had a profoundly negative effect on my electricity usage since I've built them. Unlike the more popular photovoltaic solar panels you can buy, they are environmentally friendly and will continue to work for tens if not hundreds of years after the onset of a grid down situation. They provide several times more energy and are a very small fraction of the cost of photovoltaic panels as well.

I'll provide more details in future posts. For now you can say that solar thermal energy is my M.O. I look forward to chatting with you all.

Sincerely,

RockinOnWater
