I've been on the boards for a few weeks but I thought it was time for a proper introduction! 😛
My DH and I have been prepping for about 8 years now. Me more-so than him 🙂 but over time he has come over from the dark side...or is that to the dark side?
We started off like many families do - living in a small city - storing food and trying to squeeze out money for other gear so if the power went out we would have food, heat, and some security. We had 6 chickens in our backyard for fresh organic eggs. Over time my thinking was challenged by many people on various prepper boards. It was a long process but last year my DH bought me a farm for my birthday - or so I like to say since we moved a week after my birthday.
I know it's not what everyone wants to do or is able to do but God opened doors that I couldn't have imagined and here we are.
Life has changed for us - all in good ways. I am not longer bored! We've accumulated animals at an alarming rate - 80+ chickens that free range and keep us and lots of our friends in eggs, 2 sheep that will hopefully be the start of our flock, a donkey for animal protection, 7 ducks that are very entertaining and provide us with eggs but have been negilgent parents - abandoning their nests of eggs so no offspring as of yet. Besides the numerous kittens (which we have homes for and plans to fix the others) and a spoiled city dog that about sums it up.
We've given up TV - a blessed relief. We're working on an endless list of projects that will help to make us more self sufficient and we're doing it together.
Our food storage is not enormous. Our preps aren't anywhere near "finished". Life is not perfect but it's good, satisfying and far more restful than life in the city. There's lots more to learn about canning and gardening and animals and and and... I have lists of lists of things to do, things to buy, things to learn and I know it will never be enough and that's OK with me. I have learned over the years that the latest crisis can bring you to a panic or you can have a plan and just continue on doing the best you can. Every day I am one more day down the road to preparedness than the one before.
