I am a retired nurse, and live in the Cloverdale area of Surrey, BC. No one I know is preparing despite the fact we live in a dangerous fault zone, close to volcanoes and on the coast. I was happy to find a forum in Canada, seems most info on preparedness is US oriented. I started researching about 18 months ago, fell down the rabbit hole, bought a book on family preparedness and started getting stuff together about a year ago as money would allow. As my husband is not on board (although weakening since seeing the sun shine in our north windows until the end of July, and the moon a few times in the north west sky) it has been tough going. My family really doesn't see the need to prepare to the extent I have, they believe three days food and water is enough and the government shelters will provide if more is needed. I am not that trusting, and my research tells me we may be in for a rough ride. I do now have my survival equipment/place together and food for a few months. Its in a small community of 200 lots, about 20 year round residents, about 3 hours away, 3000' , has water, good fishing/hunting, and good soil and 30 km to nearest main road, easily defended so hopefully a good place to be. We put a trailer on our lot, and built a shed for our supplies, but prepared little else. If I had my way, we would be moved up there, a little log cabin, have an established garden, a root celler/bunker, and a few chickens etc. but that's not possible when you are the only one in the family that sees the need. I haven't got to know anyone there yet so I don't know if there are any preppers or just retirees and recreation oriented people. I know many are there for the hunting and fishing, and there are a couple of farms close by so hopefully they can share that knowledge. At least I feel I have done something just in case, and my plan may be enough to help my kids and grandkids. If nothing happens, we have a great little recreation spot! 😀

Welcome to the forum Shanoa, glad to have you on board. Sounds like you have done quite a bit to prepare in spite of your adversary. Hope to hear from you often.

Welcome Shanoa

We live in Cloverdale as well however we are living in Northern BC temporarily. If you ever find some local stores that sell prep items please let me know. I'd love to have a local resource for things like mylar bags, buckets etc and avoid shipping costs.

Hello and welcome!
I think we all understand where you are coming from in one sense or another. I am from vancouver island and I didnt get so much into prepper first but food storage and my family was fine with food storage and even started selling it! and everyone thought it was awesome but when i started to dabble into more prepper things, thats when i started to get the funny looks lol but ya i just got use to it! But they still all love my food storage and the funniest thing is the people who do give me the weird attitudes are the exact same ones who always say " well i know know where im going when SHTF" lol find it a bit ironic but to each there own and I just hope that they open up to it and come to me for help before that time comes!
Enjoy the site and there are lots of wonderful people to learn from indeed. We are always around to help!

Hello Shanoa
Welcome. Good bunch of like minded folks here. And growing! Most of us have spouses that don't necessarily agree with the level of prepping we want to achieve - I don't ! So it can be challenging to hide/modify the truth a bit so we can get the things we need - especially when it comes to money!
Good luck and warm welcomes!
