Good day,

I am a retired Military officer and was a military contractor. I have set up base in kenora Ontario, i believe that the natural resources here can provide for a long dirty stay. Plenty of timber for rebuilding, hydro electric dams and access to the trans canada corridor for trade make it an ideal location. Plus it is home to the 117 field artillery battery. All said i believe if something major comes down the pipe you should rally here. Remember to pack your adze....

I am willing in the event of a life ending event to share my knowledge and hearth with those that need it. But we must be vigilant, be ready, and be armed

B74,

What happened?? You started off strong and then you went quiet?? All okay out there on the Canadian Shield?? Don't give up on these folks. They need you. Keep talking. Provoke so response. It is too quiet in the ON/MB border region. Rock the boat. Help these folks bond and build a community that can at least network.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

I have already put out a couple of messages already. I have not heard a word from anyone about getting together.
This site is good for information on products and discussion on how to types projects. I am interested in forming
a group or becoming involved in a group. Either it seems that people do not want to trust others or are not allowing
new people in.

Mountainman what are you doing so far from home?? 😆

I have family on the MB/NWO border and I have started my parents into prepping what they can afford. I'd be interested in seeing a more active forum here as well since many of my friends and relatives still live in the 'peg and I may have to bugout while on vacation and need a place to hold up That would be embarrassing 😳

You'll know me because I'll have AB plates on the rear and The Jets on the front vanity plate.

I'm also interested if that Kenora region area can actually grow food? Are you close to a hydro plant? or have the ability to harness the water? I'm sure there are a few secluded lakes but depending on the nature of the teotwawki the lakes may or may not survive.

Keep the chatter up!

Hey Dang,

I am just out traveling, like you.

Thought if I upset some folks they would post and tell me to be quiet. No posts, but it is quiet out here.

Since you have friends and family out this way maybe you could send them a link to this website and they could then decide if they will join. Or they may forward the link to their other friends, you know the crazy ones who like to prep stuff, go camping, maybe a little plinking now and then. 😉

Any suggestion on how to promote the site to get more people on?? And then once on how to convince people how to start writing posts?? I had a trip through the membership page, there are hundreds who have not posted even one message. Hundreds. How do we convince them to join in the discussion?? They joined, they read, why won't they post??

The borders region of MB and ON should be prime ground. Ahhh, maybe they already have a 5 star BOL and don't want to draw attention. That must be it. Sorry MB and ON we will leave now and turn out the lights and leave you folks alone.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

I'll be watching for those secret handshakes when I drive home this summer lol. The first time my Calgary-born and raised gf seen Lake of the Woods, she asked if we were at the Great Lakes and I couldn't blame her! It is a great lake afterall.

See you in June at the meet Mountainman.

If anyone is interested, we are building a Manitoba Preppers website. Check it out here:

Ryker,

I hope if you get a good turnout on the new website you remember to redirect some to keep active on this site, too.

A Manitoba only site may be good in the short term, but think of the lost opportunity to network with others across the country.

I am all for getting folks prepared. I hope you are successful.

Mountainman.

Dang,

Remember with the secret handshake, the head nod and the complex wink of the eye!!! 😉

Mountainman,

Thank you for your suggestions.

Yes, we have links back to International Preppers Network (IPN). I'm going to move it front and centre on the home page(s). My intentions were to compliment IPN and not take anything away it. I thought that by creating regional websites extra synergy and features would be added to the prepper movement. Also, I will be linking to the three other existing Canadian Prepper websites to promote provincial interaction.

Thumbs in, head tilted and eyes a winking 🙂

Cheers,

Ryker

Ryker,

Thank you for clearing things up. Hopefully the fine folks of MB, will find these networks to their benefit and become more active on both sites.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

I believe that people may be using this website strictly for online social interaction. It took me a while to get the hang of things and to send private messages and I had to be told I had to make a few posts first. That is fair enough to get people to open up and get discussions going. If you are following the problems in the real world the time for talk is rapidly drawing to a close and the time planning may be very short. The time for making final preparations is now! This means forming groups, finding a place for a retreat and building infrastructue. It may not be ideal or pretty, but you will still be ahead of 99.9 % of the others. Survival is not a sure thing, but your chances are increased.
My handle is in Latin and can be translated as Deeds Not Words. I am not the smartest, fastest, meanest, fitest or the most well prepared. I am an indivdual who thinks the time for some type of action is now!

Okay,

I have waited a few days to respond, in case MB'ers would want to post a reply. Facta non verba, you are right on the mark. Now, where are the rest of you in MB?? Facta non verba, you are an army of one!! Victory is yours. 😈

Thanks for the vote of confidence, I hope there are others who feel the same way. I am running several scenerios on what my game plan is. If we are caught up in a worst case scenerio I will not start looking for backup, they or other plans will already be in place.

Good to see Manitoban's communicating 🙂 This is usually one of the slower provincial forums.

In a SHTF Scenerio I'll be hunkering down, granted my preparations have a long way to go, but I'll hold out as long as I can.

I'm not aware of any active Prepper Communities in the province, but I'm sure due to the Farming focus in the province many people will be o.k. in the short term as long as they stay away from the major centres (Wpg, Brandon).

There are intentionally planned communities that may do well. There are Amish, Hutterite, and some Mennonite Communities may do well. There are a few other groups that although thy are not planning for a SHTF scenerios and appear to be set up like the hippy communes of the 60's and 70's. I was briefly a member of Collapse Net, but no luck there, although I did meet some interesting characters.

Years ago I met people selling the windows out of school buses. The shells of the buses were being suppose to be used for pig barns. Something did seem a bit odd, but I let it go and did not ask further. After becoming involved with Ark Two out of Horning's Mills Ontario I suspect the family may be constructing bus shelters at an undisclosed location.

I worked with a nurse who told me she use to live on the farm. An elderly American couple were retiring and sold the property. Before they sold it they approached the family and said words to the effect: "You have been such good neigbors we should show you this." They had an above ground nuclear bomb/blast shelter. Walking down a seldom used trail they came upon a mound on top of the ground with a rusting steel door in the side. Inside was a concrete shelter, very dirty because of lack of Maintenance and barren of supplies, but otherwise intact. It had been there so long mature trees (for the area) were growing on top and all around. The neigbors never knew it was there, the children never knew it was there (great place to play)!

I was involved with one group that wanted to form a group and purchase a property that had been properly constructed to withstand anything from a solar event to nuclear war, EMP, fuel crisis etc...
The land was not cheap, but well worth the money. A few people were prepping, but most were freeloaders. Some were involved with the Occupy Movement, Freeman or Soverignist Movement, energy channelling, Zeta Talk, channeling spiritual entities, Wicca and Witchcraft............. There were too many people with anarchy leanings. Those of us who were serious were not interested. The goup never had another meeting.

I have heard of individuals prepping but no groups.

This has gotten me thinking. I hear the groans of rusty and cobweb infested gears in my mind starting to turn.

The next article I submit will be "How to form a group when it has started (shtf)
