Hello fellow preppers!
We are a family living in Eastern Canada but relocating west in the spring. Would love to meet up with like minded individuals.

We're living in Nova Scotia, previously from Ontario and will be road tripping out to the Kootenays in the spring.
We are a big family. Kids are homeschooled.
Not many in our neck of the woods are preppers, or conspiracy theorists, so we keep mostly to ourselves. Would really like to change that by moving west where we feel we can be more open and where prepping and homesteading is more accepted.

All I can say is... Northern Ontario!
As you know we love the coasters, love to see peeps move back to Ontario. If you do go to BC, try to keep the fact your from Ontario at a minimum when job hunting!!!!!
Alberta is booming as well, lots of peeps there from Ontario and the Maritimes, Love BC but lost a house there due to not getting jobs as I was from Ontario and had too much education. sucketh!!!
Kamloops and the Kootenies were much nicer to Ontario personnel though.

Wow...
Here in Nova Scotia if you are a "come from away" you aren't very welcome either. We were not fond of Ontario, actually. Alberta has it's jobs, yes..but from what I heard they have a disdain for east coasters coming in and working. Can't say that I blame them.
Our relocation in just about employment, it's about lifestyle. We'd just really like to be where we fit in as a whole rather than lurking on the fringe.
How on earth does one have too much education? The phrase "over-qualified" simply needs to be scrapped in this economy.
Nice to meet you WldernessReturn.

On the Sunshine Coast = they hate people from Ontario!!!
Could not even get a job in a fish factory, they kept saying your too overqualified!
Was told in a few interviews, that I was not from there, did not care that I had a house, come back in 15-20 yrs when your really part of the community.
By this time, funds ran out, could not even afford ferries tickets, lost house! ya me...
So some might view my comments and say, he is lazy! Well during that time, a neighbour offered me a job, splitting firewood, paid me $25 a day, I split, threw and stacked up to 4 bush cords a day for $25 daily. That is how I had enough food and vehicle money, then we moved to Whistler area, very expensive.

Sounds like you were getting ripped off big time. No hourly wage? How did you afford Whistler?
Skiing isn't our forte, so no need to live in or near resort towns.

One does what can, when the only job offered was cutting wood or go to food bank and beg, I work.
Whistler, noobody normal can afford Whistler, they hire non BC residents in that area. Lived in Pemberton and Squamish, commuted, then drove Long Haul, got divorced.. yadda yadda ..
Just do not move to Sunshine Coast! Plus you can not get there without the Ferries, so $$$ some work in Vancouver, commute daily on ferry busses full and slow, or ride share, Kamloops or Kelowna is progressive and long history of Hippies so the are used to alternative peeps there. LOL>. permaculture peeps abound in that area. Look to Lower Mainland for work as well, though price is an issue. 100 mile House area is good too, there were pockets of goodness towards non BC people there, though Forestry is down to nothing so not a lot of jobs left for anyone.
good luck, happy trails and take care.
PM when your going by, coffee/tea on me, or perhaps Shakes, healthy yummy shakes that I am getting into!
Watch the papers as you're travelling west; you might get a job offering in SK or AB before you reach BC. We're still booming and if you can drive a commercial truck and pass a pee test (please don't answer that here 😎 ) then you'll find work.
The challenge, no matter where you end up is the cost of housing (even rent) unless you have a camper that your family is willing and able to live in for a time or you have a nice nest-egg from whatever you're selling when you leave the East.
Goodluck either way and welcome to the forums!
