Hey all. I am new here. Finally decided to bite the bullet and connect with other preppers. I am still fairly new to the whole prepping thing and been researching a lot. I know what needs to be done, but I need to decide how to approach it. I am a single mom of two girls, rent the house in which I live, work from home, have no car, and a decent mountain of debt. I have read that getting rid of my debt is one of the most important things to do as a prepper, and of course, it is important if you're not a prepper. I guess I used to think it was pointless if money ends up with no value when the SHTF. However, I am considering it because at the present time I cannot get a mortgage. I am trying to decide on the best use of my finances and to prioritize. Also deciding whether I want to be in the country or stay in the city. It's tough because all these things depend on when things will get bad and how bad they will get. If I stay in the city, then I won't need a car. If we move to the country, I we might be safer and have more space and freedom to be self-sufficient. Staying in the city means ensuring you have a community of preppers to work with before things get bad. If the SHTF in less than five years, I won't have time to get out of the city so I should focus on building myself security here. Then there is the building up of supplies, water, and food, which I have started. This is important, but even more important is the building of skill IMO, something I have also begun to do. Foraging, hunting, water purification, etc. will mean more than anything else.

Anyhow, that is a brief intro to myself. If there is anyone on here from London, ON or surrounding area, then please do give me a shout 🙂

Hi and welcome.
I don't think it will get so bad that the banks won't care about your debt. This would be a top priority for me.
There will probably be another 5-10 years of exporting natural gas before things fall apart. Jack at thesurvivalpodcast has been pretty good at predicting the economics of the situation.
I would try to find a way to produce at least some of your own food whether country or city.

Thanks. I do have a fairly decent garden in the back, although my peas, kale, lettuce, and onions have been drowned by our crazy monsoon rain that we have had the past few days. I also started canning last year and I dehydrate food as well. I will be going in to talk with someone about getting the debt paid off, so that won't be an issue any longer. It will take 3-4 years, but it will be worth it in the end. I hate being dependent on and beholden to the system. Then I will plan the purchase of a home, probably out of the city.
