Hi Gallows,
Glad to see another fellow Quebecer on board.
I moved out of the city about 2 years ago into my bug out location in the Lanaudiere.
We have only a few Quebecc members here, but hopefully the numbers will come up!

Hello fellow peppers. I have only just started prepping but have a long military background after serving 28 years. I am currently living on South Vancouver Island. I am interested in meeting others in the area.

Hi Denob,

Thanks for welcoming me to the group. I’m sorry I didn’t get back to you right away, but I spend 40 hours a week in front of a screen typing and I try not to do more of it at night (the same job’s ruined reading for me, too).

Is there any particular reason you picked to relocate to the Lanaudiere? I myself am looking toward eastern Ontario. Not for anytime soon, mind you (my job’s still in Montreal), but maybe in a few years. I want to be near a major river because of the canoeing, kayaking and sailing possibilities (a great way to get around if fuel is short or too expensive), and because there is an abundance of farmland there. Eastern Ontario would also put me in the Montreal, Ottawa and Kingston triangle linked by the Ottawa and St Lawrence rivers, and Rideau Canal.

I read with interest your call for subject matter experts to teach preppers who are just starting out, it sounds like a good idea. There is a prepper group in the Greater Toronto Area that actually holds workshops, according to their website ( http://www.meetup.com/Toronto-Survivalists ). It's a good place to get some ideas. I’d also look toward hiring SMEs to teach classes, provided there was a group rate and you could get enough people.

I look forward to the next meetup as I was unaware of the last one.

Take care.

Well, we were looking in a few areas..
Lanaudiere, Eastern Townships, etc.
It really didn't matter to us where we bought, so long as it met certain criteria...
Access to water without being floodable, large enough property to grow some food and raise a few chickens, rural, but still with a small community, artesian well, etc.
Oh, and it had to be cheap, meaning our budget was $40,000. This would allow us to purchase without a mortgage.
When things started looking down in town, we decided that we would eventually move here full time...and after surviving several rounds of layoffs at work, one round finally got me...our very own SHTF had come.
We gave up the apartment in the city and here we are...living in a house that we own outright.
Sure, the place needed some work to convert it from a 1 bedroom summer house to a 3 bedroom full time residence, but we did all the construction ourselves and sharpened our skills at the same time.
I still keep an eye out for property in Ontario though...say Ottawa area, but north of the river.
One day, we will buy something around there as a new BOL.

We should probably set up a meeting soon, there are a handfull of us now and I think we have to organize a bit better.
If all else fails, there should be another Ottawa area meetup coming this fall that we could go to.

About a year in and I am proud to say how happy I am that there are many other people out there that started buying extra items here and there and then develop skills to prepare for the so fast coming future. Thank you to every person who has joined this site! If anyone has questions I hope I can help and I hope to gain as much knowledge as possible from You! My first of many question is where can I find a list of items and there self life? powdered milk, beef jerky and all stuff that is good to freeze dry and vacuum seal? 😀

Hey folks. I've been mentally prepping for some time. Just started seeking out information. I'm in Windsor, and if we have a SHTF, I doubt that I'll be able to bug out. I'm terrified of all those nice, heavily armed Detroiters walking over the border and I'm not sure what to do. I am a industrial electronics/battery technician, so with all the other crap I know I could be ok. I just get the feeling that I'm toast..lol i'm looking forward to learning as much as I can though. Thanks 🙂

🙄 Hi Im CboyCa from Vancouver. Im really Happy to connect with all you other preppers out there. It would be great to connect with some people that are in the area possible as far away as 4-5 hrs around the B.C. interior or up along the Pemberton/Lillolet area.
