After last year and the extra rain, then this spring with rain and heavy wet snow....my duck pond has returned, roughly 5 acres in this picture but attached to another 4 or 5acres just out of the picture. It had been reduced to just pasture 2 years ago. I look forward to seeing the ducks return, they get to nest undisturbed on my property...

Interesting unpredictability in this area. Flying over AB these past few weeks, I've noticed that the sloughs are nice and full while some less travelled County roads are submerged. Yet a couple of drier months and all this moisture is gone.

We did have a good bit of rain last year that helped, but what I think really brought up water levels was the fast(er) melt in March that because the ground was still frozen channelled the water to the low areas, I noted that on the 1st of April I still could not put a spade into the ground as it was frozen, so the melting snow and rain (in April) we had did not sink in, other words I suspect this "apparently" higher water levels is transitory.....a anomally if you will....enjoy it while we can.
