I came across something interesting.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCRJSJPYy2A for putting out fires. With two woodstoves in the house and one in the garage I thought putting one of these up in the attic above each stove would be a good idea. I have 4 on order. I have some of the old Carbon tetrachloride ones. This looks like a more modern version.

I just realised these things would be handy to have to roll out in advance of a grass fire....I am going to have to get more.

As far as I know cold is not a problem for them.

Right now at Princess Auto they have fire blankets on sale. Two different sizes, I bought 3 of the 8x8 for 29.00 dollars each. They are in the welding section. These are heavy blankets, with ringlets all the way around. I think regular price was over 50.00 dollars.
I think the other size was 6x6 and I think they were on sale for 15.00
Now that I have thought about this more, I am going back to buy a bunch more....I will sew them up together to make a couple rolls8 feet wide by 40 feet long that I can just roll out along the two long sides of the house in the event of a advancing grass fire. Think of it as a non water dependant fire break! God Damn this is becoming a expensive month!

Sounds like a heck of a good idea for your welding projects as well.
What about a permanent firebreak in the form of a cutting the grass/ hay right down to the ground, a garden, raised boxes or you using a tractor bucket or grader blade to snuff out a fire, long before it gets close to 8 feet from the house. Berms that are perhaps 200 feet... from the homestead are another option.
The fire suppression balls I ordered came in. They look good, I think the post office used them as footballs but no damage done.
In thinking how to increase the area around the ball that can trigger it to go off. I came up with the idea of adding some fusing...not a lot, maybe a meter coming off the ball in 4 directions, or i could even daisy chain a sting of these to all go off at once. Just some thoughts on options..
It looks like some of you must have ordered some of these things. I just tried to order more and the supplier is out of stock.
