I think the trees started to change colour early due to the darker days because of the week after week of heavy smoke blown in from the fires in BC.
Whatever the reason I am stocking up my wood pile. I have been using waste wood (end cuts) from a lumber yard the last few years, I get it cheap so why bother cutting?

I wouldnt do this with logs, but this is clean, kiln dried, bug free, planned lumber so I am stacking it in a unfinished room in the basement. I wont even have to go outside for wood this winter (I should have thought of this sooner)

Great idea! I would have thought that the cost of using scrap lumber would have been much higher to consider this as a viable solution. Brilliant.

Yes, I image. I do feel bad for burning it, its so wasteful, if I just had more time I would stock it up for more usefull projects...

I wouldn't call it wasteful to burn it, smart to use what you have. Around me, back when I had a working wood stove, we would go around and pick up old pallets.

My garage is now ready for winter. I had a old home made wood burner in there but I just put in this one and what a difference. Many homes don't have as nice a wood stove as this. Let the snow fly!

and I have this raised up off the floor so the door is about the height of my first rib, so I don't have to get down on my old knees to load it!

This stove is nicer than the two I have in the house.

What a lovely warm image that is. Come in wet and cold and just sit in front of it and warm the bones. Love it

This has been the first winter I stocked up the inside of the house with firewood...I can highly recommend this...so nice not having to step outside for firewood.
