Came across a book called Edible plants in Nova Scotia at Sherbrooke Village and they wanted $60 for it. Is it worth getting at that price.
Don't know without being able to see the book itself, but having a detailed edible plant book tailored for your own zones and neck the woods is a very good thing, but its possible with a little research you might find this is the best one or that there is another for a bit less that is just as good..
I would check Chapters and see if they have the same book and the cost.
I'm not sure if it's the same book but I bought Edible Wild Plants of Nova Scotia by Heather MacLeod and Barbara MacDonald for $12 last year in a used book store. I had heard it was out of print so YMMV.
Side note: I just bought a huge book on herbs at Coles in New Glasgow. They had two stacks of them for $5 ea.
"A prudent man foresees the difficulties ahead and prepares for them; the simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences." - Proverbs 22:3
"The man who has a garden and a library has everything." - Cicero
We plan on making another trip to Sherbrooke Village, I'll have to have another look at the book i'm not sure who it was by.
My book is different Edible Plants of Atlantic Canada I got this book from Chapters for just under $35.00 but your best to look around at different places
I have the same book as lee enfield, its a good book but i dont think i would spend 60 on it, out of print or not for 60 bucks make sure your getting what you pay for i bought mine for 8 dollars in a rare book store in halifax but its not in great shape. Hope this helps.
Thanks will have to look around and see if I can find the same book in Truro.
Nova Scotia has an excellent library system. For most books within the system, including university libraries, there is no charge to order a book and then pick it up at your local library.
The book mentioned is in the system;

So go to your local library and ask the librarian to order it for you. You can also do this online. You can also order books from other library systems but usually there is a charge.
I only buy the occasional book that I think I might need for reference. Other than that, books take up space, are costly and subject to deterioration. If I need to store some info from a book, I can copy that or scan it into my computer.
Also, every time I go to Halifax, I go to one of the University libraries and load up on books. You can find a lot of interesting material by browsing the stacks. You can also renew these books three times and can return them at your local library.
So, this library system is a great, free (paid with your tax dollars) resource. Once you know how it works, it is all gravy!
