OK. That was a cheap shot on my end...and I think this subject calls for more than cheap shots. Ive said for a wile that the prepper movement needs a re-branding but it needs more. It may need to be cut right down to the stump to get rid of the over growth and dead wood. I used to tell people that they need to get in touch with their inner super hero and become that. Now thats embarasing to me. I think its more important to ditch the hero thing and get in touch with your inner Bob, The Builder. Replace the image of the crossed gun belts for the crossed tool belts. The saw and the pipe wrench. We need to stop being the symbole of the Cockroach and take on the symbole of the Beaver.
I had wanted to make my next post on Post Tramatic Stress Disorder...But this posting has made me realise that I need to focus my writing into Building a New prepper Ethose. A new Self identifying Mythos that takes us to building positive, productive changes to our future, that can be admired and copied by newbies instead of mirroring negative, reactionary prepping. The Simpsons Prepper episode shouldnt be looked at as some conspiracy to make us look bad. Instead, we should laugh at the humour and say to ourselves, Lets make sure we dont become those characters.
I suppose, hanging with professors has made me realise its the time in my life to write my Doctoral Thesis on Prepping and a thesis has to be a new thought that adds to the general knowledge, not a re hashing of others work. The Inspiration came when waking yesterday. Let the Special Forces Survivalist Myth decline. Even The Farmer image wont do the trick. We can replace it with the image of The Builder. Re-branding?

In each group there is a set of sub-cultures. The prepper movement is a prime example of this. Though the group as a whole recognizes themselves as preppers, the different sub-cultures each have there own methodology and ideals. The best one can do is explain their methodology and ideals to others and let the individuals decide weather or not it will work with their own. Every group has extremes on both sides of the scale but most people usually fall between the two. Unfortunately it tends to be the extremists that look for the most attention or get the most press.

Salvaging, looting, preppers vs. hoarders, I don't know what is "right", or if there is a "right", because we are talking about a scenario that we can only guess at.

I think there are three basic animals in this World- Sheep dogs, sheep and wolves. Don't mistake the label "sheep" for something bad, these are the folks who do the daily grind every day, make modern living possible, and make the World go round. The sheep dogs look after the sheep, and the wolves tear away at the flock. There is NOTHING wrong with being a sheep (in this analogy, anyway), but I tend to think that we really need to be sheep dogs, and look after one another.

Bottom line, if your focus is to be a sheep dog and not a wolf, you may look at the concept of looting in a different light. I think. I might be crazy.

To add to my previous post, I will relate a conversation I overheard recently- What a group of "preppers" planned to do when the SHTF. They were well armed, well trained, and had scouted a large grocery store and planned to loot it at gunpoint as soon as it became "necessary". I am not talking a couple loaves of bread, they planned to steal truckloads, and trucks to transport it. After this, they would retreat with their stolen booty to the woods, hunker down and wait it out for a month or so. None of them felt the need to plan beyond that, because they figured everything would be fixed or at least settle down by then.

I know that most anyone on this forum would NOT partake in this kind of anarchy, because we are all on here trying to develop our preps with self reliance in mind. But this is a cautionary tale, sometimes we preppers will be lumped in with the "Wolves" who are just waiting for their time to take a mean advantage of a bad situation. I hope this is an isolated group with ideas that will not be acted on.

Well, lets leave the ethical Anarchist out. They wouldnt tolerate that. But we see a common theme here. We have to take some responsability here for what we have allowed to be considered "Prepping". There is a military saying that apllies here.

Piss Poor Prepping leads to Prosecution, Prison and Penile Penetration or Postumus Parental Pain and Pitty.

There are 2 famous articals that apply here. I generally consider this artical crap and unhelpfull to builing decent prepper community...but it applies here.

I’m surprised this thread is still being debated. This Forum after all is “International Preppers” not “International Pillagers” There is a difference between Mining an area for resources and looting.

No one here has any idea the type of aftermath we could be forced to live in. Hopefully the only survivors are not pillaging, looting and raping scumbags.

Oh, Get over it. If your sence of manhood is so fragile, I dont have the time or psycological training to help you build it back up. Im too busy building my farm to actively keep people alive.
What I do understand is that when someone becomes enraged at your points that there is no use giving your rational arguments because you are not arguing againt ration. You are butting up against a Belief and anthing that challenges that Belief is personalised and taken as a personal attack on their sence of identity... becuase their shallow identity is only held up by the toothpicks of their Beilief. If there is a crack in their belief, their world crumbles into violent childish temper tantrems. Grow up. Get back to the subject of preditory preppers.
