This is a sarcastic shout out to all you Militia types in the prepper world. "I wave my private parts at your auntie" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ey0wvGiAH9g Just had to get that off my chest.

I'll be taking a Sabbatical from posting and all things prepping soon but I was just listening to an interview with Dmitry Orlov and it got me thinking about an earlier post I did on Organised Crime when The SHTF. Here is the interview. http://cluborlov.blogspot.ca/2014/05/interview-on-signs-of-times-radioradio.html He really doesn't get into it until after the first hour but its a decent interview if you want to let it play in the background while doing something more prepper productive. If you want more Dmitry, here is an early comical speech at FORA and why I hold him in high regard as a prepper touch stone and slightly different from your usual Paranoid Prepper types. http://fora.tv/2009/02/13/Dmitry_Orlov_Social_Collapse_Best_Practices (scroll down to get the full talk) I loved his description of navigating " Well armed, well trained, emotionally unstable men". I resemble that remark.

Sooo...Back to organised crime in collapse. When I originally posted, I think I was alittle ahead of the curve and it was shocking to most to here that Organised Crime wont magically disappear, will most likely become your local government that you pay taxes to... and this is not necessarily a bad thing.

I'll give that a second to filter past your Shocked filter. I know its not how you usually think about collapse.

This happened a few blocks from my previous house. I knew all the players involved and have my own theories. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjDMP_9olVk We moved because a club bunker was just down the block. It might have been the safest area around in a collapse ( I could leave my stereo on the front lawn and my keys in my motorcycle and I could almost guarantee it would be there in the morning inspite of crack heads)....But I knew who I would be paying taxes to. (protection money- The usual monopoly of the State in good times)

I've said quite often that most prepper plans are just "Fantasy" and not very helpful to mom and pop preppers. Warrior fetishism mixed with back to the land romanticism. Patriots will bug out into the bountiful forest and endure (miraculously against starvation and exposure) and fight off their unconstitutional UN antichrist socialist cyborg overlords. Permies will see a smooth Transition to a world without oil where we embrace the Goddess and sing Kumbia. The Aryan Nations will have their coveted Race War against mud people and communists and purity will bring back the middle class prosperity to Amerika. Christian Reconstructionists will bring back that Old Time TheonomyTheocracy ,if not by the ballot box then by the cartridge box, inbetween outing the antichrist of the week, Stoning to death the occasional `faggot`(A few here have tried to hide by targeting Metrosexuals) and arguing adnaseum about pre, post or mid Tribulation Rapture....and Preppers will finally be free from there hated slave labour jobs and mortgages, free to wander the wasteland and shoot all the sheeple that oppose them and want their Stuff.... This is not prepping. Its lunacy and a quick path to poverty, imprisonment or death at best, becoming a mass murdering Death Squad at worst

The reality of government collapse by those that have experienced it first hand is a little more...complicated. It's not a New Beginning but a resurgence of the old normal. One of those new, old normals is organised criminals taking over local governance (Taxes- protection money- extortion) until it is economically viable for the New government to retake over the roll of monopolised violence. Black Markets. Grey Markets. Barter and Trade Contracts. Without Organised Crime syndicates backing individual contracts...trade becomes the Theftochracy we saw in Russia post 1992. Got an SKS? Thank a theftocrat.

Sooo....back to Dmitry Orlov's insights on collapse. Without the localised monopoly on violence (by professionals. Armatures don't stand a chance) contracts don't get fulfilled by those who see no consequence in deliberate fraud. For one side to do honest business...It starts with an understanding that one side is backed by (insert mafia here) and the other is backed by (insert mafia there). If the contact is not fulfilled...unpleasant consequences ensue.

This is not meant as to be as an apologist for organised criminals. Its just meant to be a psychological prep into the world you may find yourself having to navigate in the future. A mental Prep.

That's enough for now to get the arguments....er...conversation rolling. Have at'er.

P.S. Its not just about recognised organised crime. It didn't go away, for me, by moving to the bush. Here in N.S.... There are still the Clans... something more to consider. Who will end up being your next Tax Collector?...and how will you and your family navigate them or negotiate better terms with , with survival (and not hero of the apocalypse fantasies) in mind? How good are your street smarts.

OOPS. That FORA link isn't very useful and the old, full, video cant seem to be found on the web but I tracked down an audio version for you.

Now, wouldn't you all just wish that I wouldn't do such challenging topics. Maybe just talk about the content of a bug out bag or the best camp knife that you can shave with after you spear fish a shark with it. Sorry. I just cant bring myself to do it. Its just not in me

Here, here...I second that...uhh...all ..you said...yup! 😆

The book is likely one that many are not going to run out and buy and therefore they will not learn how well written it truly is. Man is destined to walk paths we have already taken if we do not paying attention to such details.

Here is a solution:

if you can use a torrent program, get it here (and pay later 😕 ) http://kickass.to/the-stages-of-collapse-dmitry-orlov-pdf-breakdown-of-industrial-civilization-t99870.html

Thanks for watching my six.
I read the Five Stages when it first came out. I like his take on the Gypsies and Hutterites.

One of the books that has gone under the radar, that I recommend, is 'Too Much Magic' by Howard Kunstler. Its a History of how we got in this position. We did it to our selves with short sightedness without any need for conspiratorial Super Villains. WAHAHAaaaaa. Unlike most "experts'" who used the financial collapse of 2008 to rally the simple minded with simple answers, to back there political or conspiratorial view. He Pushes no agenda in his book. Maybe that we need to rebuild the rail system and shipping ways before we run out of Capital...but that's about it. Many know him for his fictional writing, The World Made By Hand series but he is a much better non fiction writer while somewhat mediocre at fiction.

A favorite quote by Howard K is , " Whenever I venture out to the campuses and professional conferences people ask me :What is the time frame for this Long Emergency? I tell them we've entered the zone."

Loved this paragraph. Just last night I was rolling my eyes for the umpteenth time over at Shtfplan. This time it was their "16 Reasons America Is Going to Hell". Some of which were valid. But 2 or 3 related to the breakdown of "traditional families" and the rise of Darwinism. In other words it's the fags and single mother's fault. Plenty of commenters agreed ofcourse.

And it seems like more and more the posts about economics and solar flares are replaced by paranoid warnings about Obama's unholy army. "He's planning to exterminate the free thinkers! He's gonna round you up in camps! SHEEPLE SHEEPLE SHEEPLE!"

I'm seriously afraid of the people who might inherit the Earth after a cataclysm. Not just the thugs, but the "reighteous" types who think they know all the answers and aren't afraid to burn all the witches.

"Death. Death to the Witches!" .....do you think I should change my internet name? 😕

Well, I was worried I just went off on a rant...But I do try to entertain as well as horrify.

Why exactly do we torcher ourselves with SHTF Plan anyway? You only get some useful information one out of 50 posts. Its like a pimple that would heal if you just stopped picking at it. Just squeeze it out and move on.

Soooo....Lets steer this back to talking about dealing with organised crime on a day to day basis......as much as I do like people telling me how fantabulous I am. 😉

Lol no problem.

Well on that subject, I'd rather have mafia rule than no rule. A corrupt system is still a system, and it allows people access to things they might not otherwise get.

Now the payments involved might not be altogether pleasant. It's often conjectured that women will wind up selling their bodies to get by after a world changing event. But it's arguably better than having no survival skills and no bartering system at all to turn to. "Civilization" is more likely to survive under those rules than with utter lawlessness.

And where there's organized crime there's "organization". Even criminals want some semblance of a life; the ability to sit down and enjoy comforts instead of running through the streets shooting each other 24/7. So with that in mind the crime boss overlords may very well slap down the sort of chaotic petty crime that makes life unlivable. "Law enforcement" if you will.

Well, as they say, organised crime is better than disorganised crime. They do kill off the competition.

traditionally, they take over the black market. If you need it...they can probably get it... gas during rationing...morphine...etc.

My apologies on that last post I edited. When I first decided to share the story of my survival advice, I looked at those seeking and then promoting this advice and was not comfortable with the way prepping was being presented. I made the decision not to teach any stranger I did not trust well and know their self discipline and ethics , the application of violence.

In the same way, I realised I am not comfortable teaching strangers how to navigate organised crime in so much as to teach you how to make contact and do business with them. Please forgive and reference why I have done this.

In the end, I Must ,above all, follow my conscience

Well, after that serious note, how about a little humour to lighten the mood before continuing to talk about Organised crime

"Just when I thought I was out...They pull me back in" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPw-3e_pzqU
A Godfather quote seems appropriate.

One more good article came out on the subject by a guest writer over at ClubOrlov on Post collapse professional credentials.
It covered four of my "Pet" subjects. Organised Crime. A Slow Crash. Government that doesn't magically disappear...and last but not least...providing medical services as barter to the local community around you as a way to be protected from trouble makers(no body wants to piss off the local medical provider because someday they might need them). OK a Fifth as well. Ditching the Hero of the Apocalypse Meme.

enjoy.
