It started out so innocently. I just wanted to re talk about bugging out in the context of Syria....then I typed one word...and I have no control over rants. None whatsoever. Why, oh why don't I have an adult in the room to keep me from pressing "Send" 😆

You must have been watching the news or some such thing, Take my advice turn it off and don't ever turn it on again. People visit and see I don't even have a tv to turn on and think I am crazy but its much more peaceful that way.
I too have gotten worked up about the non rational idea of BUG OUT , and had discussions that were like talking to a fence post but I have come to understand why.....its not exclusive but in my experience 75% maybe 80% of such people are of one of the magic sky god clans.
I have come to understand that a significant percentage are having a Mosses fantasy ( lost, leading their people).
They are anticipating turbulent times where they get to lead either themselves or their family through a dark rough period, leaving everything behind, where they have a chance to show their god how worthy and righteous they are (like mosses), they want to "perform" for their god...show him if you will. I don't mean this in a bad way rather just so you can identify those with such a bent. Now 90 % of those type of people are not conscious that this is why they hold this thought, Its a reflex, like throwing up, for the longest time I could not figure out why they held such a position, but once you realize this instead of argueing with them and trying to be rational, and explaining the importance of community, cooperation,neibourse and such. you can just say "sounds good would you like another beer" and life is easier for everyone, and your blood pressure stays lower.
I have found this to be true in the climate change arena...80% of those denying it are of the magic sky god clans.. I used to look at their data cause I thought maybe there is something to it but no.....they have to deny that man can change the earth, cause that's something only their sky god can do ( for some space god, whatever)...Chew on it for a bit and tell me if you think I am wrong..

further....save your frustration for, or in my case utter and complete contempt, for those who promote such ideas for personal profit. The fear mongers if you will..not that there isn't things to be concerned about, but call out profit driven fear mongers for what they are...its much more fun doing that, and trust me the only thing they will do to a challenge is BUG OUT 😆

C5, despite my theory of the appeal of the moses fantasy, and it being the sub conscious driving force for the bug out theory with the majority (of the sky god clan believers), there are some such individuals who are able to reject the idea, and are "all in" you could say. The friend who was modifying his wood stoves air intake is a example, despite our disagreements over religion he is "all in" where he lives. He will be going nowhere when/if there is a disaster....his home is fitted with a wood stove as well, firewood stocked, I think he is up to 7, maybe 8 kw of panels and associated parts ready to go up....generators both gas, and diesel, freezers stocked and he just put up a green house this year, all this in the middle of the city, on a typical lot size...He knows his neighbours, and lived in the community his whole life, once people get the idea of running away out of their head, they then can start doing the things that make a real difference, and because he has lived in the same area his whole life he knows and has a network of friends set up much like himself, and that's the big benefit of doing things, rather than planning on running away...if your doing things you will meet others over time who are doing things as well..You aren't likely going to meet them otherwise!
If your planning on running away...guess what? thats likely the type of people you will be meeting...just food for thought.

If you want to talk from the Syrian crisis point of view, from what I've seen on the internet so far and being thousands of miles away from there, I would say that if I was there, I would rather be in a refugee camp in Turkey or Lebanon then in the ISIS governed territory.

There we go. The real topic I wanted to discuss before I spun off onto a rant. When and how to flee a country that broke down into civil war (In this case, after the country broke down after a prolonged drought caused by climate change). The Bug Out Bag would have a completely different mythology to it (Baggage. LOL) if it was referred to as a Refugee Bag. One of the things that comes to mind is how wherever you go, there will be people that don't want you there, never intend to let you assimilate into the culture, will fear you or scapegoat you, Burn your camp, etc.

Something that comes to mind that happened on this continent was what happened to the Okies during the dust bowl. They fled Oklahoma, heading toward California hoping to start again. The Californians did everything to block them. Mobs were formed. Police were bought off to harass and arrest them. People demanded the army stop them. Their shanty towns were burned down. People from Oklahoma, if they were allowed in restaurants or theaters at all, could only sit in the "Colored" sections.
They were exploited as cheep labour and intentionally had their wages dropped buy a conspiracy of rich farmers.

So, nothing has changed. Forget the religious part. Its a human folly problem. This is what you will meet anywhere you go.
