I read this from Paul Wheaton over at Permies.com. Well worth the read. It mirrors much of the advice I would give. It also applies to anyone thinking of considering prepper community or sharing land.

Quest for Land.

I read your link. I think it covers a lot of thoughts and concern (especially how much space cows need) it's interesting that cows were such a focus. On smaller parcels of land one could have goats and have meat and milk and they'll eat all the stubbly brush-like wild roses so that the land is more useful. The concerns of living with a group of people are valid ones. One of my concerns if things get bad is squatters. The free-landers have made fools of lawyers getting them to sign liens put on land that they squatted on ,for the improvements they made that the landowner did not ask for or want. If you are a landowner you can find many sites telling people how to squat and what laws apply and how to circumvent them. If one allow some nice family that had run from the city put up their tent for a while it may be hard to get rid of them if they turn out not so nice. One advantage of a community-just say the commitee says no.
I also enjoyed the YouTube one. Fun but too true.
