Hi ,thanks, Old School..............
this one on thursday is reportedly sold out, but they will have a booth all weekend where further info can be had.
I will likely go sat. and/or sunday. Just thought it might be a good opportunity for any on this site also interested in organics and community...to meet for an extended lunch/coffee in the cafeteria? We all seem to be too busy and far apart , yet we share so many similar interests.
I have been emailing back & forth with Ben Polley about building my house. I will have to see if Harvest Homes has a booth for Sat & Sun.
That's great to hear! I met Ben just after he did his first couple of strawbale projects, and had then suggested that we start a green building GUILD in ontario. Alas, we lived too far apart to make it viable businesswise, so we obviously pursued our individual paths.
I will likely use strawbale on a portion of my design too.
Hope to see u at guelph.
Oh how I wish I could attend!
If anyone does make it up there please share your info! 🙂 And of course have a wonderful time!
Just returned from the guelph conference.
Met with the natural building folks, and they say they have some folks particularly interested in the kind of rural scenario i've tried to describe, without going into all the details here.(i am still co-working on the legal structure, constitution and by-laws)
Then i met another couple who are very interested in investing for their future home base, and offered to bring their large farm tractor for the snowblowing and log hauling/material handling.
Some of you may be glad to know that there was also a Canadian rocket stove manufacturer with 4 sizes available .I did not have time to compare notes at the end of the day, but we agreed to collaborate on the mini-design.
Never seems to be enough time to make all the possible connections with folks longing for an alternative living modality.
I was helping out at a both and only made it to one workshop; the $1000 good forest : living your 1/4 acre dream. It was about planting your own foraging space. Two of the ideas I recall are. If it grows well in a ditch it will grow well in your garden. Look for native plants that you can neglect let them plant themselves year after year.
It gave me a few ideas on plant selection for my future preppers garden. I have about a 1/5 of an acre that I've let grow wild. I plan on introducing some native eatable plants and turning it into a peppers garden. Something to call back onto if my real garden gets looted.
