Not sure if this has been talked about .But to my knowledge the Ruger 10/ 22 is the best of the semi-autos because of dependability and lots of after market stuff.Started this thread because we were dicussing guns in the PAL thread and thought it off topic

The 10/22 is a really nice peice of kit, I own one myself. Another good reliable gun is the Remington VTR. All in all though, the nicest .22 I ever shot was the Calico .22 Sporter. Unfortunately it's now one of the prohibited weapons we can't buy anymore.

For clarification, remington has a few models of the VTR. What you're looking for is the Remington VTR 597, which is the 22 rimfire.

You absolutely cannot go wrong with the 10/22. Mine is GREAT. A friend of my moms purchased one when it first came out in 1964, and still has it in his barn as a vermin rifle. Never failed on him once.

Rugers are nice, but I wouldn't trade my Remington Nylon 66 for anything. 14 shots, semi-auto, weighs 4 pounds and at 50 yards I do 1.5 inch groupings

I had a Nylon 66 for 37 years and never a problem. The only problem I have with it now, is that I gave it to my son. He uses it all the time and I haven't heard any complaints from him yet.

Hey Tazweiss

Which Nylon did you have? The Apache Blach, Black Diamond, Mohawk or the rare Seneica? I bought the Apache Black 33 years ago, picked up a Black Diamond last year for about 2 bills with taxes. I love them

The Apache Black with a 4 power Bushnell Banner scope. Even after 37 years it was still deadly accurate. At 100 yards I could still clip the cap off of a plastic water bottle on a consistant basis.

I for one prefer my old Cooey 64 .22 with it's 10 round mag. It's been far more reliable then any other semi .22 that I or my friends own (one has a 10/22 which is a fine gun in itself).

Picked up my old Cooey for $40 at a gun sale. It came fitted out with a cheap 3x scope on it too.

I think he 10/22 by far!!!!!!!!!!!! I bought one a few years ago and it has never failed me.I bought it used for $90 and it was an older one with the metal trigger housing. I put a match grade barrel on it, volquartsen trigger assembly, a new stock and some decent glass which improved it quite a bit. Some rifles are more accurate but more touchy when it comes to being dropped and tossed around while something like the 10/22 will stay accurate while being beat. If you do get a 10/22 make sure you get a nicer V-Block which holds the barrel in. Whatever you do stay away from the "Henry AR-7 Survival Rifle" biggest piece of crap I have ever owned.

I bought an AR-7 years ago. I still have it. Definately not the most reliable or accurate gun I've ever had. I carry it in my rucksack for emergencies only.
The worst peice of crap I ever owned was a Squire-Bingham .22. The only time it came in handy was when I removed the stock and used the barrel for prying some boards off an old fence.

If you can find one....Henry - U.S. Survival AR-7.

Its the rifle that pilots used to cary in their plane, 22lr, the whole rifle breaks down and all parts including 3 mags fit in the stock.
Its water tight and floats, fits in your pack.

Question Can-AM and it`s timely, I was just considering purchasing a Henry - U.S. Survival AR-7.

You don`t seem to be too impressed. Could you elaborate a bit with you`re concerns about it.
