Ok all, maybe we can have a little fun with this... I have spent about four weeks slowly picking up items for my B.O.B, I also feel like i dont want this to just sit in my car or basement and never get used, so I am also going to use this as a bag i will bring atv'ing with me, and maybe this summer i will spend a night in the woods and test out my preparations.

Anyhow question is what would be the top 10 items you would bring... and then maybe the next 10 etc...

mine just off top of head...
first aid kit
matches/flint or such
knife
compass
water
raincoat/poncho
flashlight
gloves
multi tool
trail marking tape

was actually harder then i thought to think of what would everyone else bring?

😀

Mine is more of a "bush pack" but I suppose it would qualify.
Started with a small Camelbak M.U.L.E. pack 3 liter capacity but I've never filled it more than 1/3.
"Magic Heat" alcohol stove - $8 from Canadian Tire. I modified it so it all fits inside a canteen cup.
Selection of instant soup packs(the cream ones are best), hot chocolate envelopes(MRE ones are the best), coffee envelopes, tea bags, sugar topping off the canteen cup.
A few single serving peanut butter packs like the ones you get in restaurants for toast- lots of feel good there.
Couple of energy bars
Light poncho/ground sheet
2 flashlights, 1 very bright, 1 very long lasting- both use 3 AAA batts.
Good compass
Multi tool
Swiss army knife with tweezers, good scissors.
Folding bush saw
Baggie with a TP tube stuffed with a couple of fire starting sticks, 2 Bic lighters and packed with dryer lint.
Another baggie with a few paper towels(the Scott blue "shop towels"), bandages, steri-strips, dental floss, disposable gloves.
2 large clear "leaf bags" garbage bags.- (shelter cover, make holes for rain poncho, climb in and stuff with leaves for sleeping bag).
Camping knife/fork/spoon kit.
Handfull of heavy duty zip ties.
A few more paper towels stuffed in wherever they fit to quell any rattles.
50' paracord.

My last ditch "lost everything else" kit.
My pockets will have two lighters, extra ammo(if hunting), 8 oz stainless hip flask(for boiling water), more paper towels and knife(with flint rod).
Survival whistle/compass on a paracord necklace, if I need car keys they go here too.

knife
water
paracord
tinder box
wool blanket
first aid kit
second set of clothes
food rations (x2)
axe
tarp

I came at this question as if I had to choose 10 and ONLY 10 items. With this set up I think I could get along within city/town limits. With a bit of luck I think I can scavange most other things readily enough. I don't think I'd get to far if I left the town though.

Hey all. A good book to assist with these things was one I read recently. A fictional survivalist book by Rawley, Patriot. good read. Plenty of info.

Wouldn't leave home without at least one change of socks. If you do have to walk any distance, once your feet are roughed up too much, you are toast. I keep a pair in the truck as well, seasonally adjusted.

Truck!
7 days of clothing, boots, polypro base, fleece mid layer, and rugged outer layer, rain gear (top to bottom) shorts and some light t shirts, hats, bandanas, 7 days of food, 2 burner propane stove, 1 burner/grill propane stove, 2 pots, 1 pan, utensil kit, tinder to start fire, blast match, doan's magnesium block with hacksaw blade, storm matches. (no Bic's, they won't work when really cold, they are no good) camp fire grill. hobo stove.

water filter, water bottles, water tabs.

hygiene kit.

dog food.

4 season tent, sleeping bags, tarps, 550 cord, heavier nylon rope, plastic and metal pegs, mallet, assortment of quality bungee cords.

knife, axe, hatchet, maul, spade, pick axe, tool box full of goodies.

first to trauma kit, medication kit.
N100 masks

maps, GPS, compass.

tools of self defence . . .

tire goop, tire plugs, spare tires, auto fluids, (no spare belts, still a short fall)

lots of lights, 4xD cell Mag light, AA mag lights, LED light bar, LED circle lights that have magnets and hanger, chem sticks candles.

CB, 70cm/2m/6m transceiver.

a trailer for each truck, if i have time, i'm taking a lot more.

this kit is packed in a number of bags, but if i have to leave the truck/s behind, i have backpacks to take some with me.
if i leave i'm taking everything i can with me. not just a bag . . .

i carry this kit because i work in a small city, live 30 minutes away, my plan is always to get home. but like i said, this can be adapted to bugging out.

i'm sure there are other things there, but they are not coming to me right now.

actually it's funny you ask.

i did this big meet a few years ago, we'd meet up and in the middle of no where (asphalt turned to dirt, dirt turned to mud, mud turned to grass. . .middle of no where) and we'd set up a community (i'd call it camping but it wasn't) we were able to provide power for those that didn't have their own, we did have to bring in water, but half it came from a spring no fall from where we were. we had a move on a large screen for the kids on night, it was something to see this large lot turn into a small city. there was over 100 of us there, and the kitchen crew that had a set up just as good as any one's kitchen here, had a sink with hot and cold water, ran with a pump off solar. there was 5 people that cooked/fed over 100 people 2 meals a day for 4 days (the official time frame)

i started working on a camp sink for trips like this, got all the parts just never got it together 🙂

it's amazing how some people prep these days, the kitchen sink isn't always a joke.

I live in Hamilton down the mountain. Living in this big city close to the water my only option is to BUG out, I dont have a place to bug out to. But with the severe earth changes that will occur. Cities are not safe and niether will any coastal or low level areas. Anyone prepping to Bug In around these areas, very well could be in for a very unpleasent suprise.

hey Hammer101, that's why networking is the new catch phrase in prepping. it takes a lot of people to sustain security on a remote property, even with a good security system, dogs, and back up power. WTSHTF you'll need friends, and a place to go. (friends with a place to go to works best :D) but this seems like a good start to meet people that may live near you.
