I live in Hamilton down the mountain. Living in this big city close to the water my only option is to BUG out, I dont have a place to bug out to. But with the severe earth changes that will occur. Cities are not safe and niether will any coastal or low level areas. Anyone prepping to Bug In around these areas, very well could be in for a very unpleasent suprise.
Cities are not safe under some circumstances. The Brampton (AO) is about the same elevation as the top of the CN tower (or what ever they call it now) so we may be wading and not swimming.
A Bug Out Bag is designed to get you to the safe house or retreat. So a truck, while handy for gun racks may be a bit much to pack around. Our group uses one criterion for the BOBs, take what you need to not be a liability for at least three days of walking. Contents vary.
I have a bug-out bag I carry with me everywhere I got when in the city (Toronto), the idea being - ideally I would head to my apartment where I have more supplies: enough to confortably bug-in for a few weeks (unless there's flooding, fire, nuclear fallout, intense crime/looting). Could through most of those supply into the car and head out to the property I co-own with other people between Toronto and Ottawa.
Anyways, my "go everywhere, everyday" bug-out bag is designed for being in an urban area, assuming I can find some water, some food, some form of shelter, some more clothing... but at least I have some things with me.... hopefully enough to get me to my bigger Bug Out Bag / home / my rural Bug Out Location (future homestead).
It's also designed for every-day use, not just an "en of the world as we know it" scenario.

A trick I learned in the army. Pack everything for your B.O.B. in ziploc freezer bags. We sometimes used our rucksacks as floatation devices for water crossings. Also, if you're on foot when it's raining it not only keeps everything dry but it will stay lighter when you don't have to pack all that extra water that can soak into your gear.
Those who are unwilling to defend freedom, will become unfree.

I partially employ this trick... Need more ziploc bags.
I've learnt that even double-bagging something won't keep it dry for a swim... so I triple-bag when I can.
