Datrex rations adn water are a lifeboat ration. High calorie, low weight and space. They will get you through for a short time... think bug out bag/ 3 days rations. Energy to keep you going. There is a fellow in Guelph that sels them along with mylar bags and the tub bags for water storage. His prices are reasonable. Here is his email addy : bunkersupplystore@hotmail.com

I haven't looked for that brand of MRE before, but I do like this costco brand. "These are standard issue American Military MRE's which are chock full of energy" and I would have to agree, this first link is for a 7 day supply, you might even consider the next link for the 8 meals depending on your budget. They are both good for 5 years but that is at room temp, you can get an extra year if stored a cool dry place. Make sure you understand the 4-digit Julian Date code on these as some people think with a look that they last forever, that's not the case, i suggest every couple of years eating and replacing them. Often over packaged, but good fire starter or remove and repackage to your liking. I hope that I haven't been over paying to much, please let me know.

The advantage to Datrex or other "lifeboat" style rations VS MRE types is weight. If you are talking strictly calories then you can't beat the lifeboat style. They also will last a minimum of 5 years regardless of climate/storage conditions. Packaged as individual tablets...much like a cookie. No cooking or reconstitution required. They come in white rations which are 2400 kcal and the blue which are 3600 kcal. There are other brands available but I am familiar with Datrex.

Hello Kid Prepper,
your 14? wow..

not even sure what Datrex is??

lol, yes i am 14. hahaha

And thanks to Everyone else who commented! 😀

the thing is, the store is too far :/
but i found out Costco sells B.O.B (kinda) and they have the Water Rations/Food Rations. so i may just buy that and either change to a better bag, or add more things.

Your local supermarket will have stuff better tasting than MRE's and cheaper too.
Hell, our whole society is based on convenience.
Foil packed entrees , "just add water" anything and single serving sized cans will do just as well as all this other stuff.
There are plenty of rice and veggie and pasta and veggie things, that are basically dehydrated mixes in a sealed pouch. Add a small can of tuna or the like and you're set.

Just have a look down the aisles with a prepper mindset, check best before dates before you buy. Eat them and replace when near their dates. They'll last a lot longer though they may not taste quite as good.

Datrex is simply survival calories, not nutrition. Like a big shortbread cookie with added vitamins.

Clean water has no expiry date, if you store it in plastic it will pick up that taste. Stainless steel or glass will last for a hell of a long time. Get a proper backpacking water filter if you think you need to.
