Anything liquid, at least in theory can be dehydrated.

I got a camp cook book from the library and they mentioned "dehydrated wine." That just seems wrong, but...I suppose you could take a lot more with you. ~j~

On the subject of dehydrated wine, remember that the first thing to evaporate would be the alcohol, and just the flavor would be left behind, which would be good for cooking. I guess you could always rehydrate with pure alcohol 😉 .

I've had my Nesco for a few years now and it's great. I've dried fruit, sauces, stews, meals, jerky, pep stick(ground beef squirted out of a caulking gun). I make great meals for backpacking - way cheaper than Mountain House meals. If anyone is interested in making light weight meals for cheap, dehydrating meals and sauces on fruit roll sheets is the way to go. Great for the BOB.

I finished doing 2kg of peas from frozen yesterday.

Just doing up some brown rice to make it "instant". The rice is cooked first (45 to 50 minutes) then dehydrated. To rehydrate it whole and heat up only takes about 15 minutes according to the notes that I found. Half of what I dehydrate will be powered to try to make an instant breakfast.

Have a roast sliced ready to go into the dehydrator next.

I would love to know how this turns out!

I don't think there will be enough roast left for the dehydrator, I keep snacking on it.

I will let you know how it goes with the rice.

I think that depends. The first year I did garlic the neighbors complained that the whole neighborhood stunk. Smells much better then when I do horseradish. That I do out side lol

Well I did it, I broke down and bought a 9 try Excalibur dehydrator yesterday. I would have started using it last night but my mom wants to see it today. 🙂

Nope it was not on sale but I have been trying to get caught up on my dehydrating. I hadn't really done any in the last 4 years and was out of most things. I used to replace all my spices each year but ended up buying some this year. When I saw on the label that the spice may contain wheat, I decided the house could wait a bit longer as I really needed to do some spices. I had mentioned to my mom about the Excalibur and how old my dehydrator is - about 12 years old. So she basically talked me into buying it. It will hold about twice what my old one holds. I will let you know how it goes. I have 10 pounds of onions, 20 pounds of potatoes and 2 pineapples that I need to get dried. I keep forgetting to pick up some butterscotch pudding to make these lovely little snacks but that can wait until I get the other stuff done.

thanks for the link

All I did was peel it, wash it, slice it and dehydrate it. I grew it in my garden one year just to see if I could. It really looks like a weed.

Keep in mind this should be done outside when there is a small breeze as it will burn your eyes.
