Hey everybody! I have quite a lot of dry foods stored in food grade buckets that I bought from Dairy Queen. My rice and various beans are also stored in mylar bags inside the buckets. I have relocated to a fairly remote area of Northern Ontario and want to start purchasing more food, but the food grade buckets are more difficult to come by. I know I can buy from Briden, but my income is limited. Is it ok to store foods in non food grade buckets if they are also in mylar bags?
All the information I've found online says yes...you can if they're packed into Mylar.
I have rice packed into Dairy Queen pails...the ones with the rubber seal that you can take out of the lid to clean. My daughter used to work there years ago.
You can get food grade buckets from TSC stores and feed stores. They're meant to hold livestock feeds and the Gamma lids fit on them (TSC also sells them).
Do you have any restaurants/burger joints/sandwich shops near because I see the buckets stacked up outside them around here, awaiting recycle pick up day.
Thanks so much, all good ideas.
Any old bucket and lid works fine as long as its packed in mylar bags for bulk grains and beans ect. I use cleaned out oil buckets and they work great.

While I'm not worried about using a "non food grade" bucket, wouldn't you be worried about the old oil residues possibly leaching through the Mylar, or is it impossible? I'm not familiar enough about Mylar. There are tons of use for pails, so I use sketchier ones for utility type jobs.
