I saw an interesting program the other night on TV about the trash in Berlin after the war and how it was used as not much else was available. One of the things I found the most interesting was how used tires were "recycled" into footwear. I have found several how to sites to make them.

Also, I had made a comment in another thread about making moccasins. The picture below is of a pair that my step father made. (at least I hope it works this way, the up loader said the picture was too large) I have worn out the ones that I have made.

The soles are leather? Are the soles hand stitched?
I dont know if I could put those on and walk around in them they look so nice.

Perfesser, they are completely hand stitched and they are all leather...except for the rabbit fur for decoration. He did purchase the leather to make most things. He does not hunt except for with a shovel for road kill. He got some beautiful fox one year that he took home and skinned.

if he ever needs hides let me know as i hunt regularly. im going to spend some time trying to find some sort of directions on how to make footware from hides.

Sigh, I guess I better add hide tanning to my skills needed list. They look really nice, maybe too nice to ruin outdoors.
