The question is always what are you planning on using it for? Hunting? Vermin control? Different applications require different tools. Canada Ammo is a good source or Marstar. A good all round rifle that is economical and multi use would be the SKS in my opinion.
I would say mainly using it at a range but if I had to choose another application for it I would choose vermin control.
You will find many different opinions. All of them will have elements of good and bad. Mine is this. The SKS is a robust firearm developed for military use and as such is made to take abuse. Secondly the ammunition is inexpensive for range practice and you can also get commercially made ammunition for vermin control. The SKS itself is also inexpensive and easy to obtain. Lastly there are many aftermarket accessories for it so you can make it into whatever you like. Hope that has helped.
Second on the SKS. Great range practice, cheap milsurp ammo, reliable as heck, and probably one of the best bush guns out there (provided you have HP or SP ammo) due to huge hitting power at short distance (don't take this thing hunting in open area you don't get the range with it).
Before you have that though, you should ensure you have a 12 gauge shotgun (versatility and plentiful ammo) and a .22 (versatility and plenty of ammo + cost and weight of ammo).
It's better to prep for something that may never happen than not prep for something that does.

Thank you so much for the advice JustABear and Redneck. Currently I am a SASS shooter, so my guns are more for close range.
I have never used a high power rifle or scope before so I will definitely be interested in learning from those who have.
12 ga single - break action
2 x 20 ga double - break action
1894 Winchester lever action .45 Colt

.22lr rifle
.22lr pistol
I reload my 45 Colts rounds and will soon be reloading my .357 rounds, also I am starting to get interested in casting the bullets.
I’ve been contemplating on making this a separate post, but I might receive more replies and/or direction from this community. Are there any plans on getting out of dodge when SHTF? I also live in Southern Ontario, and as we all know the 400 series highways will be a parking lot. Just would like to have some input on people’s thoughts about leaving.
What would be the general area of your intended destination once you bug out?
What would be the general area of your intended destination once you bug out?
Also what would be your general starting point?
The general location would be GTA and heading to Algonquin Park. Southern Ontario has too many variables to deal with in a SHTF situation. It wouldn’t be practical to travel on any highway during or after an event. Just wondering if anyone is dealing with this dilemma?
Bug in...not out.
Thanks...Mark

Is that the right address for this place?

Yes thats the correct address. It is at the corner of Greens Rd / Haldimand Rd 66 and Highway 6 / Argyle St. The first Stop light coming into Caledonia coming from Hamilton. It's on the right hand side just past the light.
Yay Sunday! Fires and water!
