Hi All:

I hope I'm not repeating something that has already been posted but, this is so good I had to tell somebody.
I'll start off with, you have to love You Tube and this is where this idea originated. How to vacuum seal without power?

This is great. I bought large and small Mason jar sealers (ebay). At Princess Auto I got a hand power brake line vacuum. Hook them together and you have a hand powered vacuum sealer.
I can get 60 mm/hg negative pressure and it is a great work out for your hand. 🙂

Cost was about $90.00 with tax. It should last for years.

I saw that video earlier this week and was intrigued. I even put the device in question on my list but then I found this: http://www.salad-in-a-jar.com/family-recipes/which-vacuum-pack-machine-should-i-buy-to-make-salad-in-a-jar

You use the jar lid attachment with a hand pump available at most hardware store for about $10.00. I haven't actually priced those but it looks very promising. There's no gauge but you keep pumping until the lid won't come off when you lift it up by the edge - it may take playing with the figure out how much to pump.

I love "dry canning" like this. Vacuum sealing jars is my favourite way to store things semi-long term... But I think the guys will like your version better - it's more manly 🙂

Hi Anita:

I couldn't find the jar lid attachment in a store. If you find one please let me know.

NOTE: It's not 50 - 60 mm/hg negative pressure but, 500 - 600 mm/hg negative pressure. What a big difference 1 zero makes.

I just finished jarring 4, litre jars of beef jerky. Add some salt, vacuum seal and it will last a long time. Also, done for a fraction of the price of buying jerky.

I bought mine at Walmart a few years ago - I haven't looked to see if they still have them.

Ive been looking for the jar attachments for my electric vacuum sealer and I haven't found them at any stores here in town, only online for what i think is a bit pricy but I may give in because this looks pretty cool!

LOL,I've learned my lesson. I will ask here first; everyone has such a wealth of information. I won't tell you what I paid for mine. 🙁

Thanks Anita

remington870 - you just tell yourself that the one you bought is extra special and will do a much better job than the cheaper one!! (that's what I do when it happens to me 🙂 !)
